So I recently moved for a job in February. They have promoted me to a salary position where my status is exempt. I will be in charge of a maintenance team, If I am still doing over 40 percent of the actual labor will I have to be non-exempt? I figured this subreddit would have some people in here that know these labor laws. Thanks in advance.

Extroverts run the office
Tired of extroverts pushing for back to the office. Seriously, not everyone is an extrovert. And the people complaining about the WFH crowd… don’t be mad that we set our careers up to work from home. If you didn’t see the writing on the wall a decade ago that’s on you. Enjoy your daily commute. SMH.
Easiest way to get a WFH accommodation?
Since being forced to return to the office full time (with no vaccine mandate), two people who work my shift have gotten Covid. The company doesn’t care, of course, nor do they care that none of us wanted to return to the office and place our health in danger in the first place. What’s the easiest way to get a WFH accommodation that HR can’t argue with?
I’m not surprised
Asking for a raise while searching
I’ve been at this job for 6 months my review is coming up. I’m not really shopping around but something did come up where there might the possibility of a new gig. Do I ask for a raise now or wait until I get an idea of the salary at the new place? Nothing is set in stone but there is a possibility. Things to note: I received below what I asked when I was hired. My employer considers me an asset but at the same time I should be getting more based on experience. 🤷️ Edited – clarification.
Today I got an email from the head of HR today regarding our yearly pay increase. The email also contained the following: “Compensation is a confidential matter unique to each associate and therefore should not be disclosed to or discussed with others.” Since I have a good relationship with most of the executives, I replied to his email letting him know that preventing employees from discussing pay is illegal in the US and provided the following link for reference: https://www.nirb.gov/about-nirb/rights-we-protect/your rights/your-rights-to-discuss-wages He replied that what they were doing is not “forbidding” us from talking about wages, just “discouraging” it and they wouldn't take any repercussive action against employees that choose to do so. However, from my understanding of the wording of his initial message, it seemed like a pretty black and white instruction to not discuss wages. He followed up by letting me know that he would talk to the…
So I'm trying to unionize and was wondering if anyone had tips. We're a remote operation with about 100 people and although I have access to most of them, it's only through the company channels like Microsoft Teams. I'm quite sure none of us have ever met IRL and most of the others are 40+ y/o and although most of us are in Ontario, there's a few spread across Canada. I'm thinking of trying to get a FB group rolling, but most of the people don't interact with the casual chat where I could post the link and it's gonna be picked up immediately that I'm trying to take shit off of the company-monitored channels. I'm already talking with a 3rd Party organizer and they've helped unionize other sections of the company, but that's about as far as I've gotten so far. I don't have access to info on where…
Genuinely curious.
I was brought as a refugee from a country that really really sucked as far as labour and jobs. The US so far with a few exceptions aka the housing, and a few laws is better than where I left. Now I ve been lurking around for about 2-3 days and I noticed a lot of similarities with communism, which, I have a sour taste for at the moment. So can someone gently explain how I can support the anti work movement like I want to, but not get involved in the communist side of things. I want to support workers, I always have that's not new to me, it's what got me in trouble the first time. I'm not looking to argue, or fight I'm looking to learn if I can.
Just started and already annoyed
Started working at a furniture store. Today is my 2nd day and I expected me and the other people starting weee getting more training today or something. Nope. 2hrs in with no warning we were told we are opening, the stores still not properly set up or tagged and my hrs are now 10-5 to 10-9 I’m annoyed as hell.
The once sentence that make you proud. I start: I am here not to be fooled by you. Would be great to also know how you felt as an antiworker.
