All “young growing companies” are a lie
The whole idea of a very welcoming company culture is an illusion. Free snacks, unlimited PTO, resource groups for parents, people of color and LGBTQ is a false premise from the people that have stake in the company. VPs, C level and investors don’t invest in employees and their growth. They will still pay at the low end of industry, and only promote and give raises to keep the company alive. “Growth” now is to complete a few mergers and acquisitions then sell the company. But who gains from this again? Oh that’s right, the partners and investors. And once these companies sell off, the parent companies don’t need everyone. There we see the axe thrown down. But hey, when c-level/partners get fired they collect on the m&a too. Now let’s get to the bonuses. This is a rough estimate from colleagues of a few companies. Anyone in the entry/staff…
There’s been some discourse over the past few days about how a tip based pay system (usually restaurants) is bad (true). It has the server work for ridiculously low wages (2.13/hr- state minimum depending bc on your state) and customers supplement this income through tips. It’s pretty stupid, but if you know that’s the system your server is working in you have a moral obligation to tip and to tip well. If you can’t afford the food + tip then don’t go out. By not tipping/tipping poorly you are choosing to contribute to an exploitative system in a way that hurts workers. You are complicit. This doesn’t even mention that many restaurants make servers tip out bartenders, cooks, dishwashers. While not everywhere, many times a server pays these positions a % of your bill.
