zero-day notice
tl;dr I gave a 0-day notice because management's past behavior told me that was the only smart thing to do. This was 2019, but I felt it was worth finally posting here. I worked for a major software company for over a decade. I'll actually admit that the top-level management of the company was and still is exceptional. But in my last year or two there, my division brought in an executive from another major software company, who brought in his people, who brought in their people… And I ultimately found myself reporting to a bad manager under a bad manager under this executive, all cronies. Meanwhile, I saw one of the most outstanding coworkers I'd ever known be shown the door the day she gave her notice. She was planning to make a graceful exit, because that's who she is, but they weren't having it. This threw a wrench…
If you don’t like it then leave
We were told we had to return to the office despite growth in sales working from home. The entire team preferred working from home for a variety of reasons and we were doing it effectively. My boss blamed HR. We confronted him and ask repeatedly and respectfully to let us WFH. He finally broke and said “this is what we’re doing, if you don’t like it there’s the door.” 30% of the team has given notice. Yesterday I accepted a new role. I lead the team so when I was asked by him “is this really what you want?” I couldn’t help but laugh and tell him “this is what we ALL want. More of the remaining team are interviewing elsewhere this week.”
And we were all led to believe we were lazy shits compared to outsourcing-work-to-death Asian countries? In both work and school. And nothing has changed since then ?( except maybe a federal holiday or two) Pepperridge farm remebers
Just got fired from the easiest job
I worked front desk at a hotel and got fired today, it was totally my fault as I was stealing things from our market place to eat etc. I honestly just feel like dying right now because it’s one of the few jobs I can do with my medical condition and I fucked it up I’m just in shock at how stupid I am. It was a good job with a semi fair boss all things considered but I still managed to fuck it up where do I even go from here? I feel like I’m fucked
Anything but busywork
Before the pandemic I worked in service and dispised being told to find busywork between rushes. I object to waisting time and cleaning products just so it feels like they are getting their moneys worth out of me. Like, they bought my time, it's not my fault there is nothing to do right now, I don't owe them. Under no other circumstances would I buy something, realise I don't need it, and expect the seller to pretend I used it to make me feel better. At the interview for my current job I was clear that it was my least favourite part of anything and don't want to do it here. I was promised no busywork. Only over the last 10 months my job has been slowly automated until all that's left is busywork. I wish they would sack me. I'm miserable. This is the entire problem with valuing work…
Physical disability
Long story short I’ve been laid off from my job. I’ve worked there for less than a year and I’ve been injured outside the job. Still doing physical therapy on my ankle and it’s been months since I’ve had surgery. I wear an ankle brace now and still use crutches. How do I go about applying for jobs? I can drive myself to work. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Union job with the state with shit pay
I have a legit question. I have always heard how we should unionize and how it makes things so much better for us workers. I recently took a job for the state that pays 18.72 an hour. It is about 3 dollars lower than it should be…at least. I took it just to have something till I find something better. I had no idea that this was a union job. I have a friend that has a union job at another state. She literally spends her day sweeping at a job site where facebook is putting up a new building and makes thirty something an hour as an “apprentice.” So with the wage I’m getting I was shocked to find out we are in a union. I also found out after starting that I have to pay $60 a month to park 3 blocks from work in a parking ramp,…
