And less for most restaurant workers.
Not work again in the traditional sense, anyway. Who's been here before, who can shine some wisdom my way? Perhaps someone else has been in a similar situation. I've been working in my current job for a bit over 3 years. I do ecom management. For nearly the last year I have felt bored with my work. Boring has slowly turned to frustration, and frustration has now become anger. A few months back I was going to quit and basically told my boss I am going to leave unless he paid me more. I felt exploited and undervalued, considering the money I was helping the business make. My boss obliged and gave me a decent wage increase. Now fast forward a few months… I thought I felt better about it at first after the wage increase, but I've come to learn that working and dedicating a career to another person…
So today I was sat down by my supervisor and was essentially told I was stealing time and that I am useless. I’ve been coming in early for the past week since we are very short staffed(I was also a part of the management team). We were down two supervisor all of last week so I came in early to give extra help. I assumed I was just doing them a favor, however they didn’t take it that way. Anyway, an hour passes after the sit down and I’m still visibly upset about the situation. My supervisor asked if I was okay and I told him no and asked him why I would be after he told me I’m useless. He told me to clock out and go home. Instead of doing that, I said “fuck you! I’m done” and tossed my id badge to him and walked out. Enough…
I'm pissed. I work midnights alone in an office room with the door closed. I have other coworkers come in a few times a shift when necessary, and then there's a bottleneck at the door during shift change when everyone's trying to leave. While I'm vaccinated, I wear a mask when around a few people out of respect, who are severely immunocompromised. Well Tuesday morning, my boss comes in wearing a mask, which is really unusual for him. He stands at the office door, and while I'm trying to find coverage for a shift he's talking to about four other people in the vicinity. I scoot by him a few times going back and forth, and at some point heat him say he's wearing a mask because he has the sniffles. Turns out, he got COVID on his vacation, tested positive when he came home, notified HR who told him…
At one of my old work places there was a guy who had worked there for 10 years. Instead of commemorating this milestone he was given a cheap looking certificate for never having a day off sick. I know for a fact he was crazy hard working and most of the projects depended on him. He never got a promotion and pay rises were a percentage of inflation. He was actually quite proud of this, but all I felt was sorry for him, especially since the sick day policy was extremely generous
