So… I (20F) work for a local community center type of building. Here, I work at the front desk, helping people check in, sign up, answering phones, things of the like. I enjoy the job a lot! Other than my boss, A. She has been extremely difficult to work with. For context, A is my department's boss, B is her boss. This all started two weeks ago. I felt awful, had trouble breathing, and had a panic attack which resulted in me leaving early. Turns out, I had COVID. I immediately go down my contacts list, starting with my coworker, who happened to be at the top (this is important). I text everyone within minutes of each other, “Hi, I have COVID. Get tested, stay safe”, essentially. Well two days ago was the first time I saw A since the panic attack. She asked if I was okay, and I…
“Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizen.” Thomas Jefferson What are we really celebrating this Fourth of July. Every day I see things getting worse the country is in full decay with the wealthy running rough shod all over the average person. Medical insurance in this country is a joke with people having to chose living or life long crippling debt. No one can afford housing or even basic necessities on their stagnant wages. Even the majority vote in our national elections don’t matter when the electoral college overturns the popular vote and the Supreme Court makes decisions that effect the nation despite the majority being appointed by men who never won a popular vote. What are we so proud of what independence what freedom. America has become an international joke and a pig bank for wealth corporations. I just feel…
I have been apply to every job I see on indeed. Literally every job. At this point I just want to work to distract my mind from everyday life and it’s been difficult to lock anything down. Has anyone been having trouble as well? If so, what have you don’t instead?
My father is being worked to death.
He works at a bank in cyber security. He’s older, a diabetic, and near retirement. For as long as I can remember, he has worked crazy hours. he MUST report to work at 8:30 AM and be at his desk. He’s been working on a project and is still currently there at 12:30 am, and has called me telling me he’ll he home around 2 am but no guarantees. He must report to work tomorrow by 7:15 AM for a meeting. I am currently in bed, lying awake scared that he may crash the car on the way home. He is being asked to work obscure hours at his age, and I don’t know another person who puts in those types of hours. He told me too that this will be the norm for the summer until the project is finished.
My current employer considers us 1099 contract employees. They said we are supposed to get paid the 1st and 15th of the month. Being that the Dr (I work at a chiropractors office) is off this Friday the 15th won't be back till Wednesday the 20th, that is when we will get a paper check. Is this legal? Also, past employees have had their final paychecks held 30 days because they didn't give 2 weeks notice upon quitting. Very shady stuff I this office. Any assistance would be appreciated!
So I talked to my grandparent today and normally I try to say nothing because idk how long I have with them and it isn't like we can change anything. But for some reason I ended up getting into it when they were bashing workers They first started talking about there is a worker shortage, and they kept going off about this. (keep in mind this person is in their late 80s and not and nor ever was in a hiring position. And their last job was several decades ago, and they lived in extreme poverty to the point when my granddad was alive. They didn't have enough money to buy 2 hamburgers, so they had to share.) Anyways, I mentioned how researchers looked into it and it was completely false. That places were under paying staff or have a horrible reputation, they were looking for highly specialized people and…
