Me: Looking for a job Jobs:
I work at a nonprofit that provides classes for young people and we are preparing for summer programing. Our team had two leaders, one “veteran” with the organization and one new person who was a recent hire. We worked together all morning moving supplies from one location to another, with our veteran lead directing us on how to organize everything. After a lunch break we went to a meeting with other teams and managers (including the CEO). Before the meeting I went to the bathroom and saw the veteran lead standing in the hallway, I asked her if she was waiting for the bathroom and she just said “I just got fired”. I said WTF and asked what happened, all she really said was “The CEO is a controlling dick, and I guess I had too much to say”. I returned to the meeting room shortly after and the CEO…
I had to let go of one of our technicians. During the firing he said he was gonna kill himself and then left. I ended up calling the suicide hotline to see what I should do. They suggested sending him their number. I sent a message with the number followed by, “If you were serious about what you said you should call this number and get the help you need.” My boss told me that if he commits suicide now it’ll be because of the language I used while sending him the hotline number. I stood up and walked out of his office and went home. Not sure of my next move here.
People get judged for their employment gaps, or the fact that they switch the jobs too often or not often enough.. Sliglty unquaified, sligtly overqualified… and my favorite one: “YOU FAILED THE PERSONALITY TEST”. How could one fail personality test?? It is not that to the questions like: “I always come late to work” I answer “stongly agree” lol.. Actually, quite opposite, but well.. I guess not everyone desreves a chance to speak to an actual person when going thorugh a hiring process..
Recently suffered a serious injury at my work (whole different story) his boss told him he was allowed to leave and take me, he clocked out and took me to the hospital. 2 months later his boss lied to the company and they’re saying it’s wage theft. He’s been there for 10 years and they won’t promote him / give him a raise. Best Buy is obviously another greedy company that doesn’t care about their workers but this is the 4th person in the past couple months they’ve fired under false pretenses. They over work him 9 days in a row with no over time and he’s the only competent worker in the whole building. What do we do?:/
