Company I used to work for recently went through some downsizing. To their credit they offered about a years pay to anyone who wanted to retire early before any layoffs. This is actually pretty nice and not the source of the issue. After they sent this out to most staff they got thousands of yeses, when their self inflicted hubris assumed only hundreds would ask. Their lawyers informed them anyone who said yes must be accommodated due to the ridiculously poorly written communication that left the company open. Then came the asking people to stay and saying those that chose to stay would be rewarded for their loyalty and offered growth with the missing team members. My coworker fell for it. They were thanked and praised enormously, for 2 days. Then things went back just like before. No raise, crap hours, treated as a sub human. (Side note) Of course…

Just popped in my head, but I used to work in the Emergency Room. This was about a year after COVID-19. Everyone was burnt out and people were quitting in droves. Serious breakdowns in patient and provider safety were happening and management was not listening. Anyway, nothing ever came of it, but I tried to organize a petition to vote for a union to represent our hospital. I worked with this nurse for an entire 12 hour shift and laid out my ideas. She praised me the entire time, and was even stopping other nurses who walked by to sign my petition. I knew she was a Trumper, so I intentionally didn’t use the word “union” until the last 5 minutes of the shift. As soon as I did, “Union!? Oh hell no. Go ahead and do your little petition and little surveys, but unions are bad.”

Tired of bosses living in $1M+ houses, and dumping all work from multiple departments on me, while I can't even afford rent a place that's not shitehole. Tired of saving pennies, and not getting ahead for years, while others show off their new cars and what not. Tired of corporate bullshit, and new rules everyday. The bosses work from home most of the week, and just show up to check how work is getting done by itself. I have multiple projects running in parallel that I'm doing basically alone, and no one can replace me. You need to train in my position for least 2 years to be able to work without supervision. Just be like I'm done, unless it's a 50% raise. Gonna need couple months to unwind from this burnout.

Been working my balls off for the last several months trying to make a good impression at my job. Those several months, plus life, has drained me pretty good and I decided I would take a sick day (which I have plenty of sick time for) so I could reboot for a day and go right back to work. My fiancé is always up for me taking days for my mental health and to recuperate, however when ever my parents find out (both boomers) they will immediately launch into a guilt tirade and will say that taking that one day off is going to get me fired immediately and/or cause my employer to look to terminate me for some reason. Not only is this not realistically my case (and I wouldn’t want to work for a place that WOULD fire me after taking a sick day), but it’s a fucking…

The minimum wage is about 25% of what a person needs to support a decent life, and the tipped minimum is about a third of even that pittance. If you don't want to tip when you're picking something up yourself, fine, but shut the fuck up about it. Don't encourage other people to zero out tip lines just because you feel too guilty and put-upon to look a service employee in the eye when you do it.

I put in my 2 week notice last week after being screwed over by my company multiple times. Examples, my boss never knew how to answer any of my questions, my pay raise was far less than what I was promised with no written contract despite my objections of proof, they were blatantly racist and homophobic and tried to force me back into the office after testing positive for COVID. I finally had enough as I realized my workload was falling more and more behind so I started to apply and found a better paying job for easier work and sent in my notice to HR. I received a call yesterday from HR asking why I was quitting. I told them I found a better paying job. She went off stating “did you think about how this would affect us before leaving?” Then went off stating “after everything we did…

I got a second job recently and am about to start my last year of university next week. I want to quit my longer full-time job but don’t know how to word it. Any ideas?

People here often post illegal employer behavior. Anyone have experience working with an employment lawyer? Did it go well? Is there anything important you recommend people know before reaching out to one?
