Month: July 2022
From before I even started working there, I have stated that I would not be available during the beginning of July, they have already asked me three times to work on days I told them I wouldn’t be available. This is bullshit because I have told them multiple times that I would not be able to work these days, I will be out of state, but they just said, and I quote “I think your too busy to work” as if it’s my fault they can’t keep their schedule straight? Edit: Update: It was a miscommunication issue, they wanted to give me some more hours before I go but they wanted me working the night before I have to leave at 4AM, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth so Im keeping screenshots of the texts just in case
(for reference i work retail, i just need to let this out) how about you correct my fucking dick. fuck you for getting mad at the junior manager because YOU never trained her right, fuck you for trying to stop us from talking about pay with each other, fuck you for getting mad at me for asking for a raise, fuck you for not telling me when there was another junior manager position open even though you TOLD ME YOU WOULD, fuck you for getting defensive when one of our disabled coworkers complains about the conditions YOU put him through, and fuck the assistant manager (who i used to think was one of the cool managers) for taking your side. ive been at this store well over a year now, im the MOST versatile non-manager employee, fastest on the register, fastest learner, had nearly every aisle memorized (until you took…
Norm to find replacement for own shift?
Is it normal that if you cant work a scheduled shift you have to find a replacement? I mean isn't that the managers job to you know schedule people.
What Changed?
Serious question: You see images of the old miners, sun-worn farmers, etc. But, I know so many men that were crippled by skilled labor jobs by 35-40 years old. Landscapers, flooring installers, plumbers, carpenters, etc. By crippled I mean bad backs so they can't sit OR stand for long and aren't really good for anything else. What changed? Is it our lifestyle wearing us out so young? Is it something in the job expectations? Did people used to work slower or work together more?
The next agenda for SCOTUS – Immigration
As it stands at this moment there are very few cases before the supreme court which do not have a decision. there are three with immigration elements. Likely all to be voted against the rights of individuals. How does this impact Antiwork movement? Actually anything that reduces a population that can be exploited using min wage helps the movement. That does not mean this is a good direction to head in, it will cause many a business to fail. Seems like shooting off your nose to spite your face, but that is direction. Lucky for us there are no cases involving Labor before the Supreme Court, of course that is likely to change. The Labor shortage is of their own making and to continue down the path they have chosen is to only make that issue more problematic.
History of Union Busting at Trader Joe’s
My dad and I got into a debate on wether or not unions/living wage should exist for McDonald’s workers. He believes only specialized jobs should unionize while fast food and retail workers should not. I argued that everyone should make a living wage and have the benefits that unions offer. My dad however, explicitly said that entry level jobs do not DESERVE a living wage. I was completely baffled by his position. McDonald’s and similar fast food chains are multi BILLION dollar companies with hundreds of thousands of employees worldwide. My dad argues that “people don’t understand the kind of expenses a business has.” Hmm… expenses like offering living wage maybe? I guess this is a crazy thought for some surprisingly. I’m just curious to hear what you all think about this topic and I’m open to any information y’all might have.
