Oh boy where do I even begin. Well some discretion for those to tell me to take my boss to court. I am not well versed in my country's laws but I know it's not super reliable and it's not affordable to me. I'm also very emotionally drained and tired even months still after I quit, but I'm far happier now than I was working. I'd suggest strapping in and getting some snacks and drinks, it may be a very long read. So my first job was as a gas station worker. Most people I worked with were great. I worked 60 hours a week, 12 hour shifts with 24 hour offtime until the next shift. There are no “days off”. By the time I get home from work, I'm extremely hungry and dead tired, and due to the busted sleeping clock I often end up sleeping through most of…
Month: July 2022
Last Saturday I woke up in the middle of the night with chest pains, I was scared and called out of work because I thought I may have needed to go to the hospital. I should note, I do not have health insurance at all. My boss demanded that I come in; I told them that I was going to go to the hospital (at the time I was) and then I waited around to see if my chest pains would get worse. I really wanted to avoid actually going, as I don't want the medical debt. After about 6 or 7 hours, the severe pains stopped. They stayed mild the rest of the day, I took some tums and acid reflux medicine thinking that perhaps I had a severe case of Heartburn (I've never had it before) and within a day or so they disappeared. My boss informed that…
I don’t know if this is the right sub, but what the hell. I have been in my role for 2 years and was given my supervisors responsibilities last year, without a raise or anything additional to compensate me for it. I received a fantastic annual review at the end of the year and I asked for a raise. Also of note, my boss makes more than double what I make. My boss said HR would research the “going rate” for this job and get back to me on their findings. Trouble is, my role doesn’t really exist anywhere else, so I don’t know how they are “researching” anything relative. Also, this was all 6-7 months ago and I haven’t hear anything back. Due to the unique nature of my job, I could quit and leave them painfully hanging. But on the flip side, I don’t know if I’d find…

Overqualified and underpaid
I applied for a job with a company who told me that I was overqualified for the job. I am fully qualified in my field with a university degree and years of experience They said that my application wasn't going to progress because, “we don't want to hold you back. We think you'd be better suited for _____ job.” They sent me a link for a job they wanted me to reapply for which is worse than the original job. The original job came with higher pay, health insurance, a permanent position, and benefits. This one has nothing and is fixed term. What a joke…
My Boss Lies to Recruiter, Then Leaves
So. Hi. This story took place back when I worked for the big local call center, AKA the worst three years of my life. I could tell you a hundred awful stories, like the way we had our bonuses stolen from us at the end of our most productive month in over a year and then we tanked the sales for the remainder of the month. But the story I want to share is the straw that broke the camel's back. I was about 6 months into a new account after the last one moved their business overseas. It was a massive upgrade- no sales, easy service calls, and I quickly became a top performer. 2 of the 6 months I jumped to being the number one agent (I got a gift card one month and a bluetooth speaker the other which…queue eye roll). During this, I had a really…
Im tired of waiting for a raise and asking for one. The company I work for has become so toxic beyond repair. The leadership has fucked up so badly that they have resorted to making people do more than they are paid for, without compensation. Aside from there being no such thing as a yearly review or standard of living raise, they have resorted to keeping us in a perpetual loop of working overtime so that we can make more money. Here is the catch… when I asked one of the higher ups why they haven’t given raises to people who deserve them, they say “too many people are working overtime, therefore we can’t afford to give you raises” okay well people are working overtime BECAUSE they haven’t given anyone a raise in two years despite more work loads, working more hours and taking on huge projects most companies would…
I work at a well known retail store, for about a year now. My manager always preaches work/life balance, but disregards that myself and the rest of the employees also have a life outside of work. Recently, I had been asked to help out and be a temporary key-holder (keyword, temporary), as one key-holder was on vacation time and another one of our key-holders put in their two weeks. I was more than happy to help out as it would give me a bigger paycheck for the few weeks i’d be helping out until the other key holder got back from vacation. However, it has been about a month and a half, the other associate key-holder is back from vacation, and my manager is still scheduling me 8 1/2 hour days (only shifts that key-holders have). My manager had not explicitly asked me if i would like to continue the…
