Your company doesn't care about you. I worked for a popular real estate tech company. I was told my job was secure, but after returning from parental leave I was laid off. I've never gotten a bad review, but that didn't make them go above the state mandated severance pay. I've won awards from the company, but that didn't change the 3 minutes of conversation I was given when I was let go. I didn't crash our stock because I couldn't manage risk, but the CEO was able to secure a stock buyback. I didn't ok buying a customer an RV because a purchase mistake was made but the executives are all still gainfully employed. If you're part of a union, they still don't care, but they don't have as much leverage. I got this job after years of earning 30-45k a year in major retros with a hard science…

promised hiring bonus…guess what?
I interviewed for my current part time position in March 2022. I was told during my interview that I would be receiving a $1200 hiring bonus, $600 at hiring and $600 after 6 months. Today, my general manager informed me that since my hire date was officially April 4th, 2022, that I don't qualify at all for any hiring bonus. We were depending on that to help us pay bills (I took extended time off from working because I had a mental breakdown and entered a long term therapy program) and to help us afford food during the school year (on paper we make too much for assistance, but we can't even afford to pay all our bills right now, and physically or mentally i cannot handle working full time) I'm sitting in my car rage crying during my lunch break.
Wage thoughts
I was just watching some under cover bosses and kept seeing the same thing employees would get charities in their name and other awards but once it came down to the company giving them a raise or money out right that was the moment they broke down into tears. It makes me think about how many people I know who work full time yet can barely survive. I know a couple mom works for amazon and dad works with me at a liquor store and they both love in their car on loans and quite literally paycheck to paycheck because their jobs were uprooted and moved across the country. Why is it so difficult to pay people enough to not just survive but to live? why is it so hard to make enough so you don't have to worry about it so much? I'm not sure if this is a…
Odd request from corporate boss.
Hi all, I’m not used to posting on Reddit – I am (25F) and boss is (38M). Something recently happened at work, and I’m looking for some recommendations/support. One afternoon my boss asked me to come into his office, as I entered the office he moved the door slightly… but not closing it fully. He then proceeded to ask me to sit on his desk. I asked, “why?” He then repeated himself and asked me to sit on his desk. Now his desk is tall, so this required a little jump up. I didn’t know what else to do or say, so I sat on his desk. He sat on his chair in front of the desk, and clicked a button where he can make the desk higher. As I kept moving higher, he then let it go to the very top and said “you can jump off now” so,…
A company wants to withhold his paycheck until they've completed an exit interview. This was told to someone I know, I thought the Dept of Labor would should get involved. I said you can BS your way through the exit interview just to get your paycheck too. What do you guys think the best plan of action it.
comic from local paper
to make a long story short, at 18 I was hired by a hardware store who was just as enthusiastic to have me on board as I was to join them. my manager who hired me always liked me and treated me with kindness. However, for the other members of management, this could be far from the truth. in typical minimum wage fashion, I was required to shill $100 on steel toe boots before my first pay check. it was a honey moon phase until I realized just how anal one of my bosses was about me being at my station when I was being tugged by other members to do other tasks. one day I was speaking to one of my coworkers and apparently interrupted this one lady who was having a conversation with him, she notified this same boss of mine and he went to town on me,…
Labour: the party for the working class…
Title is pretty self explanatory – I just got interviewed and landed a job in department of wildlife. 14/hr, 4 day work week, full time and they would lodge me as well as let me use a company vehicle. It is temporary, 2 months, but it's doing something I love and the season starts again in April. I just started at a well known corporate convenience store two weeks ago at 10/hr, 32 hours a week, no overtime, no lunch breaks, can't even sit on the sales floor. I hate it there but my coworkers and boss are nice. It's not my forte at all, and although I love the laid back attitude, it pays next to nothing and I'm in a fluorescent lit hot building all day. How do I tell this convenience store job I have new plans? I feel a little bad but at the end of…
