Not sure if this is the right sub for this, but it seemed the most appropriate. So, for a bit of context, our restaurant gives employees free lunch and dinner(usually only the inexpensive stuff, but hey, free food). Characters: Boss: B Boss's Friend one: P Boss's Friend two: V P wanted to celebrate his birthday at our restaurant. He brought a bunch of food for us employees as a thank you for reserving half the restaurant for him, but he only told B and V about it. Turns out, B decided to not tell us and sold the food the next day(recooked). The night of the birthday celebration, for whatever reason, nobody got dinner. We were a bit confused, but B probably forgot, and it happens, we're all human. But two days after the celebration, V asked us if the meal P left was good. Of course, nobody knew what…

I’m 17 work at JD sports. It’s a shitty minimum wage job which honestly isn’t worth it, but it’s only part time and I need the money. I started working there a couple of months ago, and last week I checked my phone to see the time and immediately put it away afterwards, to which a supervisor told me to put it in the staff room and lectured me on how phones shouldn’t be on the staff floor, but I always see my managers and supervisors scrolling through instagram and replying to messages on the shop floor and I don’t see how that’s fair. They always make me do lots of work whilst they just seem to stand around and not do much. Is there a different rule for them or something?
Worker in Ontario Question
I work in one of the biggest retail stores in the country (mentioning this to show how cheap they are) but I was just curious on my right to refuse work based on unsafe conditions. For more detail I’m a sales rep and my department store is multilevelled. The bottom level houses the groceries while the second level houses electronics and all non-food related items. Essentially the store runs the ac on the lower floor where the groceries are but not on the upper level as they’re too cheap to fix it on the upper level. Can I legally refuse to work as it is too hot to be on the sales floor? (Good to note that the management team’s office and work area are on the same level as the groceries.
Children in the USA
How does this work because from the news we get in the UK, its illegal to abort so what happens if you have no medical insurance or job and can't afford a child? Does the government help or do you just have the baby and leave it at the hospital and the state automatically adopts it? Are jobs allowed to sack you if you're pregnant ( they seem to be able to sack you for everything else)
I'm working in a company where I need to correct the mistakes that the automated system makes. It's a simple but fast paced work. The thing is there are KPIs not only for the quality of corrections I make but also the number of corrections. But, I have no control over the number of corrections as it totally depends on how many incorrect tasks are there in the queue. So I usually end up with a lot fewer tasks even though I'm spending the same amount of time on the job while moving through the queue of tasks. And now my manager is pressuring me for not meeting this imaginary target of N number of tasks in a month. Like how is it my mistake, or how am I accountable for something that's not in my control at all. Something similar happened at my previous job where my employer asked…
My job finally came out with a “new hybrid work policy.” In the policy they're mandating all corporate workers return to the office three specific days a week. I thought about it for a few days, and the stress of returning to sit in a cubicle to work Excel and Teams meetings is too much to bear for me. I have hardly slept, hardly ate, frankly I haven't felt this bad since the first days after I kicked my alcohol addiction. On Friday I sent an email to my boss, refusing to return the office. I listed my reasons – my performance has improved (according to the company's performance rating system it has, several years with a lower rating, 2 years with a higher rating now), my mental health has improved, I have more free time that I will guard jealously, and overall, I'm happier. I stated that I'm unwilling…
I was supposed to move into a full-time role in May but my boss never started the process in advance despite knowing how long it takes for a promotion to process through HR. It'll be August tomorrow and I still haven't heard anything from anyone – they could even extend it through September who knows. This position was listed as a 1 year fixed term in my offer letter and they've effectively extended it by almost 50% while making me take on FTE responsibilities and paying me minimum wage…. is this legal? Would I have any grounds to negotiate for a higher salary when the promotion finally gets offered? The ongoing delays are having a huge impact on my life.
