Had to get back on anti-depressants because of my job

I work in an office 5 days a week doing marketing. I've been there about 10 months but 2 of those months I was away for military duty. When I got back from my last mission I decided that I was in a place where I felt I could stop taking the antidepressants. I was wrong. Third week back in the office and I'm absolutely miserable. I've been late a few times because I couldn't get out of bed. I have no drive to do anything and I keep making mistakes. Then the HR lady does something that makes me super uncomfortable and I just can't take it anymore. I'm back on the medicine I thought I was fine without and it fucking sucks. When I'm not at work I'm happy as a clam. But going into the office 5 days a week and dealing with annoying people when I…

I have two stories for you guys form instances I’ve had at previous jobs, one is more of a vent while the other will have your head twisting 360• and vomiting everywhere

I worked at an adult toy shop, now I would have loved this job if it wasn’t for the targets we had to meet.. now. I don’t know about you but I cannot justify making someone buy a £150+ toy. Our targets were to have 5 people a day buying expensive toys and there were 6 other targets we had to meet for that day but I just couldn’t say “hey, this toy that does everything else the £30 does is the one you should go for”. I personally would never buy a toy for that much, for that expense, I would expect it to make me dinner after.. Second story, get ready for your head to start spinning.. I worked for a gambling place, I hated it. People would spend hundreds and I couldn’t say anything. This guy came in drunk and would put in £100 in each time,…

When leaving a company should you be honest about issues with management or take the high road

I have a laundry list of issues I could address but also see taking the high road and just saying I want to advance my career elsewhere. What’s the best way to go?

Labour-Intensive jobs for large corporations policies on “sitting”

I work in the lumber yard of a large hardware company, and for 8 hours every day we are expected to never be sitting, even though we load endless mounds of lumber for customers, 30kg bags of concrete pre-mix, post-mix, bags of crushed stone, large patio stones, full sheets of drywall and plywood, etc. If there's a brief 5 minute lul period without customers we can't even sit down to take a breath, despite being tired, sore, and baking in the sun all day. “Sitting is for breaks”. Yeah, maybe inside where they just direct customers to things, stock shelves and check customers out. We do real, backbreaking work out here. We're lifting heavy shit all day long, very awkwardly at times, might I add. Ofcourse we get paid the same shitty wage as they do inside aswell. Today they took our chairs away because a worker who just got…

After a minimum wage increase, workers become more productive. On the whole, it leads to welfare improvements for both employed and unemployed workers (i.e. the minimum wage increase is not counterproductive), but reduces company profits. [Data: 40,000 retail workers in large US stores]

I’ve observed people in workplaces angry about their hourly wages, yet not wanting subsidies from the gov’t. They resort to treating others terribly.

How are people going to have enough savings to flee from floods and fires as climate change becomes more rapid?

This happened a bit ago.

I was at this work place for a month. It had a very high turn over rate and at first I wasn't sure why. Turns out the manager wasn't that bright. She would tell you what you are doing wrong right in front of the customers. Let minors work alone in the store. One shift I came in to it was all minors no managers. Well one day this manager was working with a new person and the new person had enough of her and walked out in the middle of a shift leaveing the manager with a long line of people. The next day they beg her to come back and let her work agian. A week later my car breaks down and I let them know. They says okay and everything seems fine. I return to work my next shift and find out I am completely written off…

can anyone afford recovery time anymore??

My wife and I own a small apartment building. It's about 100 years old and needed some maintenance. We called our (temporary) maintenance team and they came out to do repairs. (FIL hired some contractors to help with maintenance as we had just purchased the property. He hired them as a move in gift). It's two older men, one working as a “boss” the other is his “helper” in their workplace hierarchy. IDK what their positions are it's just their vibe. The “helper” is a dick. We live in our apartment building and day 1 of repairs he was commenting on how messy our unit was (we just moved in bro. I haven't even unpacked. Suck my dick.). Day 2 he was MIA. Whatever I don't have to deal with him. Day 3 “helper” is back to do more repairs. He looks like dog shit. He comments on my wife's…

I work in a state government agency. It’s the most miserable, toxic environment I’ve ever experienced, and now I’m being required to double-track how I’m spending all of my time in detail

Ok, so I posted about this in another subreddit but ended up deleting it because I work in government and I was afraid of getting fired. This post is about the imposition of yet another misery being forced on us right now, but I need to give the background first: I work in a state government agency running programs and helping with a huge variety of other projects/tasks on an ad hoc basis. The Secretary of our agency is horrible. Infamously horrible. I have about 13 years of professional experience in the nonprofit and public sectors and this is far and away the most toxic work environment I've ever experienced. It's an open secret among staff that we all fear/despise the Secretary of our Agency. Not only are they incompetent and force all of us to waste our time on unproductive tasks that go nowhere and are obviously bad ideas…
