Ok, some context. I have just finished my half year long internship and have been confirmed for a full time position. Signed the contract which states that I'll start my employment on October. So right now I'm not interning nor am I am employee. I told the company that I'll be taking a break till then, and they were ok with it. Woke up today to missed calls and texts asking me if I'll be 'ok' with helping out with some work from home. I just feel like they're not respecting my break, which isn't even technically a break. I'm not even employed at this moment in time. I don't know how to respond…
Month: August 2022
So my fiancé has been feeling sick and he went to work. He works a job where if he doesn’t go to work, he doesn’t get paid (no paid vacation or sick days. He goes to a doctor on his break and they tell him he has Covid. Naturally, I start disinfecting the house, I test myself (which is negative) and set up a quarantine area for him in our house. I’m waiting for him to come home and after 2 hours pass, I call him and he was told by his boss to continue to work (just wear a mask and stay in the back). To me, not only does that sound reckless, but it doesn’t sound legal. I also thought about anonymously reporting it, but I’m afraid that they’ll think he was the whistleblower and fire him. Anyone have this happen to them?
There is no border crisis.
Capitalists are implementing a border solution to correct a shortage in desperation at the workplace. Illegal aliens are perfect for them because they can't claim unemployment so they must be extra subservient. If they become political, hey you are here illegally, off you go. Bussing them isn't a political stunt by the Republicans either. They are seeing to it that they reach areas where they can plug desperation shortages faster. Not saying build the wall but that must be something we must be aware of and acknowledge that it is being done to drive up unemployment as Americans are replaced by more desperate people. One way to address this other than closing the border and mass deportation would be to advocate for the rights of illegal aliens, such as entitling anyone who is employed to the same rights as Americans and a stay on deportation of X months if they…
We copied and pasted what Marx wrote in several sources. While short they are sweet… they inspire more questions than answers… Richard Wolff wants to help contextualize Marx's frame of mind around worker cooperatives to help understand where he was coming from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztl0L2nI22g&t=22s

I (24F) have worked at this casual restaurant as a cashier/server for almost 10 months. About 4 months ago, one of my supervisors told me that our GM told them that the owners of the restaurant “didn’t want to hire” me because I’m overweight. The supervisor also implied that the owners have a certain ‘look’ they go for when hiring FOH — college-aged, skinny, and white. The supervisor continued to tell me how the hiring manager who interviewed me had to “convince” the owners to hire me regardless of me not being thin. Mind you, I had never met or even seen the owners before I was hired. Which means they had to have asked the hiring manager what I looked like and what my body type was to determine if I should be hired. Since then, I have felt a lot of resentment towards the owners. Is it legal…
My management is going nuts
Before we get into it, let me tell you what we sell. We sell Premium products, and that requires a certain level of sophistication from a Salesman. A salesperson needs to be well mannered, informative and have good etiquette. In recent months the management has completely lost it. The management wants us to get off our seats, wait for customer outside as they park their car, walk in with them, & keep them engaged the whole time without giving them any space. They want us to greet them in a loud jolly gimmicky voice with hand gestures and show over enthusiasm. They also want us to serve water by not directing them towards it, but by picking up the whole tray which has like 15 or so bottles and walk up to them, which doesn't make sense. Recently, according to the management, sales have been down and this is the…
Lol hey all, so I know what you're already thinking… “unpaid position? cripes. wow. get out of it immediately!” I kind of told her that too, actually. Let me give you the run down. She sees this student led non profit and sees it as good experience. She interviews, gets onboarded etc. but it's, of course, not as she expected. And she also feels like there's quite a bit of ultra-seriousness and work for such a small student run org. It's a registered nonprofit too, so she feels like she is obligated to stay for a while. How do I help her get through this and get her out before she potentially faces legal issues? She feels like just ghosting them all is a good solution but maybe not. This is ultimately stupid as heck. She's not getting paid for it, and even if she can afford to do a…
