Probably my favorite story about the guy is actually from my sister's tenure working for him, not mine. In short, he had a practice of shouting from the back office, located to the right of the employee at the front desk, to issue instructions to said front desk employee. My sister worked for him for several years and was probably his favorite staff member of all time, and this was his practice for the whole of that stint. Once in a while he would emerge to find that she hadn't carried out one of these instructions, and on those occasions he would immediately begin screaming at and berating her. I am a male, I have a male coworker who I feel like has some kind of mental health issue that needs to be addressed with a therapist. He's happy-go-lucky one minute and a complete douche the next. And he takes his snarkiness out on me. Usually it's harmless, and I just ignore it, but yesterday he got upset with me over.. a trash bag… See, he always takes the trash from my can out but sort of delays putting a new one in.. After witnessing him off someplace else I just decided to go put a new one in myself and went to grab one. I came back to put it in the can but it ripped some, I didn't think it was a huge deal, I'd just watch it to make sure I didn't overfill it. Well, some more time passed and I decided to just put a…

So I went on maternity leave in May, had my baby a few days after that, not even two weeks later I’m notified my job was affected in a company wide layoff of over 1,100 employees. Now I was fortunate enough for them to continue honoring my leave, but that is ending next week and I’ll be officially let go. I’ve been frantically applying to jobs these past few weeks and have gotten nothing but rejection. It’s been a nerve wracking summer and I fear it’s about to get a whole lot worse the coming months.

I was in the restroom today at a local Rural King today and a young man walked in. I did the obligatory cough to let him know someone was in there. He started talking to himself in the mirror, and it became apparent that he was an employee there. He said he was so over this job and that he can’t wait to quit. Then he said that he could finish his shift and gave himself a pep talk while he washed his face. To him I say: Do it. For whatever reason this job is stressing you out, the job is not worth it. They can’t afford to pay you for your time stressing over their work. I hope you find something better soon my friend. Let me preface that I love my actual work, it’s pretty darn close to my dream job. Quitting will never be an option, nor will I go to HR because it’s so easy. I report to a guy named Will who has likely never held any type of supervisory position because he sucks at it. God, do I have stories. Will does not respond to questions and oftentimes he has to correct something he has told the team because he was wrong. He only meets with the whole team and does not give any type of formal feedback. Ever. He also shows favoritism to certain coworkers. They are assigned the best shifts and often leave work for the rest of us.
