Is the whole 7-8hrs sleep propaganda?
I struggle feeling rested without 10hrs. So working FT 7-4 is no walk in the park (for most I know). I hear/read how adults only need 7-8 and I just don't agree, and I'm speaking from my own and others sleep preferences. I also don't agree with adjusting to a schedule. I can't consistently wake up at 5am forever. I do it for the week and on Saturday I don't naturally wake up at 5, it's 8am or later, even going to bed my normal work time. My body/mind cannot just be chipper and raring to go at 5am. Some people just can't, but do because they have to. Suppose same can be said for noc/swing. Opinions?
Hello everyone. I recently started a new job, its my 3rd ever job and its awful. Its disorganized, filled with judgemental and rude coworkers who are always telling me one thing and then saying another thing the next second. And get mad at me when I misunderstood or didn't know what to do. They tell me to do this, then I do it. They get mad that I do it and say I should've done it another way. ALL DAY LONG. My mangers are rude, they never listen and I was told id be working with my sister. I only found out 2 days before I started working that I wouldn't even be allowed to work in the same unit as her cus relatives cant be in the same unit. Although it isnt in a written contract id work with her, I have text messages between me and one of…
How do I beat “Job Expectations?”
Today my shift manager and department manager sat me down. They told me that I couldn’t have my “water container”; which is metal, with me. If I wanted to carry water i had to use a plastic water bottle or a clear bottle. When I asked for the policy; they said they ‘couldn’t’ because it’s “work expectations” and not a policy. How do I fight this for my right to have my water?
I would be thrilled to work again.
I used to enjoy going to work very much. When work supported a thriving lifestyle by default. But things have changed since then. Work no longer supports a thriving lifestyle (nevermind the ability to support a thriving family which could and should be the basic default for everyone, working or not). I'll never work again unless the work guarantees me the ability to support a thriving family at first and then moves up from there (with additional increases to accommodate inflation/similar). I would be thrilled to work again.
I've been a package handler for 2 weeks. This is quite literally the worst job I've ever had. I've been in the labor force for over 22 years and have worked all manner of jobs, including being a back-end manager of a retail establishment. I am no stranger to a physical job. I get 0 breaks. The managers yell at everyone when 1 person fucks up or is not “moving fast enough.” The theories of safety they teach in training do not actually work in practice. They claim an “open-door policy”, but when I mention a safer or more productive way to do things, I'm told; “No, we do it the (name-redacted) way.” The only people I see in good moods are the least productive, laziest ones.. or the ones who don't utilize the brain power to think beyond surface level. The pay is not enough to rent a non-roach…
Thankfully she just relies on the job for extra cash and doesn’t need to financially rely on a job thanks to privilege, but the fact that the restaurant forces their staff to cover fine and dash… It was a $200 order. Full family with kids and parents, uncles and aunts even, and they just booked it without a bill. Do they expect my sister to stop them? Grab them by the arm or some shit? They’re docking her pay for something that isn’t her fault, actually it doesn’t even come out of her pay check, she has to pay it. What if she didn’t have the money on hand? Just blows my mind this shit is legal. I’d quit, but apparently it’s a good job and she’s got more an ingrained appreciation for work ethic or something. I also want to clarify, I’m not against someone dine and dashing if…
