The power we have as workers if we all stood together. It is only us who holds us back, and it is only us who can help us.

Earnings up but cutting bonus/base pool by 10%

This is somewhat a vent. I work for a large corporation in USA. We found out they are cutting our base and bonus money by 10% for increases. We do increases and bonuses annually. Our last earnings report was favorable. It’s just so unfair. Work your ass off and hope to offset inflation with the increases, and no why don’t we kick you while you’re down. I’m not surprised. Just annoyed. I’m over it.

How to balance work from life…depressed, stressed, fed up.

I work full time 44 hours a week (4 hours mandatory overtime, sometimes more) as an assistant manager at a retail place. I am so tired and fed up. I know it will be any work that after 6 months I’ll get burned out, so I don’t want to leave and especially can’t take the pay cut since I’m getting paid fairly well for my age and experience. The problem is, I feel so irritable and pissed when I’m there and am always worried about work when I’m home. It makes me sick knowing I’ll never get a Christmas break again. Only a one week vacation a year…it feels hopeless. How do you guys balance work from life without being $uicidal?

Mandatory transfer

I worked at a small rural US post office where I was literally the only employee. I loved this job so much that I thought I might stay until I retired. There was a promotion available at another office that was 28 miles and a mountain pass away. I was told I had to take that promotion. I had no choice. I decided I did have a choice, found another job, and resigned. For the record, I spoke with my boss, his boss (POOM), my local union rep, a high ranking union rep in Washington, and a lawler trying to get out of it. The problem is the CBA. It spells out the particular promotion I was offered (PSE to PTF) is mandatory. You cannot turn it down, period.

A Suggestion To The Workers, From An Ally

I heard that in the past the reason Labor Unions exist is because it was a compromise between companies and workers; employers and workers. It’s just a rumor, at least as well as I’m concerned, but I find it fascinating and amusing. Basically, Workers and Ex-Workers, for having their wages docked/cut, they’d go to the houses of rich people and basically riot, burn down their houses. Labor Unions were a compromise. Basically, Workers will get their own reps and their fair wages and the bosses/higher-ups will keep their mansions intact. What I’m saying is that it’s a lesser of two evils when they can destroy countless lives and get away with it using a delicate paper trail and a wall of wolves-in-sheep’s-clothing lawyers and can, as they’ve done before, just destroy people’s homes in order to build their own businesses for their own money. What I am suggesting is that…

Getting retaliated against for making a complaint about harassment

I work at a Catholic nursing home and a fellow nurse regularly makes antisemitic comments about our Jewish patients. I’m Jewish. She even made those comments in front of our director of nursing. I reported her and administration told me that they can reduce my hours and even take me off the schedule completely. Should I sue them? Our administrator even said “you know we have freedom of speech in this country.”
