How is this remotely okay?

So working at a certain retail store, I’m generally outside about 90% of the time, regardless of rain, hail, shine, sleet, or snow. (Yay, the joys of working retail.) Recently work had attempted to make a bulletin. “Requiring all associates must wear store-related clothing.” Not a problem, I don’t mind the dress code. But in the store website, it states “when working outside, associates are permitted to wear “personal” jackets/hoodies.” (So long as it isn’t anything offensive, gang-related, basically a school dress code.) Recently a manager has been attempting to “crack down” (as she worded it) on dress code violations. She doesn’t believe the website, even after googling it and showing her. I’ve tried calling HR, who didn’t answer the phone and hasn’t replied to any emails I’ve sent. Instead, she demands I pay $30 for a “store jacket that is compliant with store policy.” Given the hours (or rather,…

Changing Management and Staff Turnover

Is it normal or generally accepted that when a business changes management that some staff will leave? I started a new job cooking for an senior care facility three weeks ago, right around the same time a new Executive Director was taking over. She's worked in this facility a long time, starting in housekeeping and working her way up to BIG BOSS. Her management style, from what I've seen so far, is very focused on promoting a good work/life balance while providing the best care for our residents. She seems alright, but being in the kitchen all day I really don't deal with her very much. Over the 3 weeks I've been here though, a lot of staff have left for one reason or another. Is this a red flag? Or just a common occurrence when a business changes management? Am I just overly anxious about my new position? I…

Can a franchise unionize in the US?

A friend of mine is a GM in a franchise, there's a DM above them and then the owner above the DM. I absolutely know that the owner would not want a union. There's around 10 franchises in a few different states that the owners have. Would it be possible for just one of the franchises to unionize? I want to collect resources to give to my friend. I am almost positive that the owners and DM would try to retaliate or fire my friend in the event they tried to unionize or even spoke about it. Could anyone help me find info about this? I am not comfortable giving out the name of the franchise or states.

My manager at work is purposely screwing me over and there’s nothing I can do about it because laws in the US don’t protect employees. I’m so fed up and exhausted.

My manager at work despises me and purposely cuts my hours and doesn’t give me breaks on my 8+ hour shifts along with a whole other host of shit. I’ve talked to a couple lawyers and asked the legal advice subreddit and got told that this kind of behavior is technically legal because the laws regarding worker discrimination are extremely specific and don’t apply to this situation. I’m so fucking tired of feeling like I’m not protected as an employee. Im fucking tired of managers being able to essentially do what they want and fuck over workers. I’m fucking tired of not being able to do anything about it. And people still don’t understand why people don’t want to work in todays economy and society? Fuck this. I deserve to feel protected.

Paid internship with no over time expecting me to work more than 8 hours a day.

I’m currently doing a paid internship for an IT company, during my internship I only get paid for 40 hours per week but all official employees make OT. We’re on day 2 and we’ve already put in almost 21 hours this week and they’re insisting on working into the night. They’re expecting me to stay and not say a word about my unpaid labor and I can’t just leave because they insisted we share rental vehicles

I was let go from a place, without anyone notfiying me. My concern is that I was in a teacher role.

I interviewed with a Montessori school back in August. They didnt respond until September – which I learned later that they traded admin because they barely, I mean barely, passed state licensing. None of this I knew before hand. I have spent a month working with them, after submitting my finger prints, background etc. This was all after the state mandated online training, of course. I had an inkling something was up, because a co-worker asked why I was suddenly removed from our Work Chat. That morning, i went in, only to see that my PIN to the door didnt work. So obviously I knew by then. But she pulled me into the office and let me know. The thing is, the check they are sending in the mail (I ask for my first check to be sent this way for my own filing reasons) is only $248. Two weeks…

Phoney reviews on google for a bad business

What is the best way to expose a business that has their own family and employees post positive google reviews to boost their ratings whenever someone posts an honest negative review? A company I naively hired RAVES that they have the highest reviews, but upon further investigation, they are all from employees or family members of all the employees. I have reported all the phoney reviews to google, but I don't trust that Google will remove them. How do I hit them at the knees…..?

I feel like you guys will appreciate this

So I recently started a new job at a call center to sell cable TV service and I’m on the night shift with three other employees and I was just let in on their tradition: “the night shift salute” where sometime after 6PM we raise up a double bird. Yelling “FUCK EM!” Is optional.
