How did we get here? Questions from a loyal dog

I feel like some of us were indoctrinated to be loyal and selfless in a way that hurts us more than helps us in our careers. These jobs were meant to be placeholders and stepping stones. Apparently the smart ones been knowing this. On one hand, there's this pressure to do good, leave the place better than I found it, etc. And on the other hand (after watching people move onto better things and not getting raises or promotions myself), I see that I was never supposed to act above my wage. Take on responsibilities that weren't mine. Try to help everyone. Better the organization. Etc. At my last staff update, I was told 100 thank yous, but when asked what would help, I said please hire more people, specifically someone under me. The response was: anything other than that? How did I get here, and why is it so…

Ideas for a mixed economic system.

I actually think parts of capitalism is fantastic, but here me out. People often think of wanting to remove a lot of the toxic elements of capitalism and immediately think of communism, The opposite extreme. I don't think this is fair, nor do I think capitalism is evil or bad in it's entirety. The better product sells more. Supply and demand determines price. Healthy and true competition exists. The more skilled a worker the more money they make. Like a doctor making more than nurse, or an engineer making more than a cashier. I think this is fantastic. The problem I see, personally with capitalism is when we get into equity, stocks and entrepreneurship. A surgeon requires a tremendous of skill effort and study. They produce an incredible value that helps society and the individuals. A CEO, stockholders, the board of directors or the owner of a company, receives as…

I’m drowning – hand hold please?

Hi all, I don't know what else to do. I'm about to not pass my probation at work so this is all a moot point. Maybe I just need some reassurance. 2022 was my personal devil year. A bad breakup with my ex-fiancee, getting bought out of my cute little first flat, realising I might never have a family of my own. Hes with someone new and I still miss the relationship and my old life. I took a new job in September because my old job didn't pay enough to thrive in London city in the UK on my own. And I have been drowning in it. It started off well, but it's very fast paced, and their expectations were high. I didn't know how to do a lot of what they wanted, but it's one of those “find a problem and solve it / make a suggestion” type…

Help me write my resignation letter

I was passed over for a management position about 18 months ago. I was a little salty at first, but decided maybe they knew something I didn’t. I gave this guy an honest chance but at this point he still has no clue, and I don’t want to keep doing someone else’s job that I was deemed not good enough for in the first place. I accepted a new position and start in a week. Just need help writing my resignation letter.

Boss wouldn’t let us quit, even with 2 weeks notice

My wife and I gave 2-weeks notice at our job as Over-the-Road team truck drivers. The day prior to our scheduled last day, our dispatcher sent us several new loads. When I told him we couldn't run them, he threatened retaliation by saying he'd report us as “quitting under a load” which would have made us uninsurable, effectively sabotaging our career. Oh and then he blamed it on a load change from nine days prior. We ran the extra loads which screwed us over, but now we've never loved a new job more. Frankly, I wish this were the first half of a r/nuclearrevenge post.

My job is going down in flames.

I’ve been working at a small-ish ice cream shop as an opener for a little over a year now. I don’t want to say the exact name, but a big hint is that we make the ice cream with liquid nitrogen. The entire store is run by teenage girls aged 16-19. But, we run this shop like the navy. Everyone knows their responsibilities, all prep work gets done on time, and customers are always satisfied. We have a 4.5 star rating. Our old boss/the owner was amazing. She was batshit insane, but we loved her and she was incredibly kind to us. She recently sold the store which made everyone pretty upset and unsure about the future of our jobs. She assured us that the new owners will keep everything the same: hours, pay, etc. That has not proven to be true. They’re making dozens of small changes that have…
