Hi, I've been through irritating conversation with my boss today at work and I want to share. First of all, the company I'm working for doesn't pay the overtime. I'm actually fine with that, because we're really rarely asked to stay longer and when we do, we always have an option to deny if we have some plans. Also, if we actually do stay longer, we count by how much and leave earlier by the same time another day, so it all evens out. They don't make problems about leaving early in those cases. Second of all, I'm commuting to work with two other coworkers. We all leave in a town around 30km from the company so it's cheaper to share the car and save the gas money. Result of this is, if I leave even 15 minutes later, I have to go for a train, for which I have…
According to the gradual changes prior to 1940 we should be working way less than 40 hours by now. Why hasn’t it changed?
I took a new job last year that was a slight pay cut from my last job in exchange for “unlimited PTO”. Now several months into the job, we’re all told it’s now limited PTO…and it’s less PTO than I had at my last job. So now I have a job where I make less money and get less time off. There was no question or lead-up; they just announced it in an all hands meeting as a matter of fact. If you’re Director or above, you still get unlimited PTO, but that’s not me. To be fair, some people were abusing the hell out of the unlimited PTO, but I wasn’t. What, if anything, can I reasonably do? I want to ask for a pay raise since they changed the terms of my compensation (I’ve always been told that PTO is a part of my compensation) without my agreement,…
Lyme isn’t stealing time
A while back I worked for a testing lab (during Covid). I had early morning and late nights. My commute to work was 20 minutes but averaged 3 hours home. I drove through dangerous condition including a major un-plowed highway after a big snow storm. I eventually began to have serious joint and muscle pain with serious exhaustion. Thinking it was muscular, I had a note and approval from my boss to leave for Physical Therapy. I managed to identify the symptoms and correlate to a recent fishing trip and was officially diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. I caught it early enough to completely treat it, but over an extended time. After a note and correspondence with my boss, I was given the OK from my boss. I'd still go in, but would be allowed to leave about an hour early to beat the bad traffic. I'd sit in traffic in…
Not in the U.S., non-English speaker. I'm a trained RN and I was laid off last November from the hospital I worked because they didn't want to give me a raise. It was much cheaper for them to hire a new grad in my position. Also, there is a big wage gap between people hired before 2018 and after 2018. This had led to nurses hired after 2018 leaving in droves. Today I learned from some friends still there that the company that controls the hospital has declined any raise request from nurses. But because they don't want to loose more nurses, they implemented a different tactic. They left in every nurses' station cards of a diagnostic chain and have the ward managers tell nurses that if they want a second job to make some extra cash, the diagnostic chain is looking for staff. Two catches: 1) the pay is…
I have a trip across the country coming up that I booked weeks ago and I don’t get reimbursed until after the travel is done. Now they’re expecting me to plan a second business trip but I can’t be out over $2,000 with no reimbursement that is a significant amount of money no matter who you are. They claim to have a “company card” yet it doesn’t exist, nobody has ever seen it and whenever anyone asks for it they tell you to ask all these other people. If you pester them long enough someone at the company might pay for your travel and then get reimbursed on your behalf but the system is so stupid.
People are FXCKEd
People are seriously fucked man…. I was laid off just recently and in my lay off process the manager informed me I can use them as a reference. Well, I Just went through a whole interview process for a job that went extremely well! Unfortunately, they decided to change their mind…. Why?? Well, after doing some digging I found out one of my references talked poorly about me……and guess who it was? My old manager…… wtf is wrong with people? Why would you tell me to use you as a reference when are going to take the chance to talk poorly about me? Note. Thought I had a great relationship with my precious manager. No write ups, no complaints, just good job sir….
Coworker died in the place he worked
I work in healthcare and the coworker who I work with/directly next to just passed away from a heart attack following a heart valve replacement surgery. He was in his 60s, never got to retire, and died in the hospital where he worked at for over 30 years. What a shitty way to go. He never got to travel the world and stayed in the same area his entire life. Idk why I’m posting this here, but it just scares me to know that could be me one day. Working the same shitty job, for the same shitty pay, all for what? Just to die and never actually experience life. Fuck that bullshit. I want to live life not constrained by a corporate entity that doesn’t care if I die because I’m replaceable. I want comfortable wages and more time off. I want TIME. I want time to live my…
For starters, I always get the food to the customer. I don't care to eat your food. I don't care where you oder from, what you want, etc. I pick up literally everything(had to pick up a Vibrator from cvs and tropical smoothie for someone once). I don't judge. I always follow the instructions of leave it at my door or hand it too me. My ratings were 99% completion rate(had one order I couldn't complete because I was shot at). Have a 4.94 star rating. And an 84% acceptance rate(I don't take orders unless the mile to pay ratio is the same or the pay ratio exceeds the mile ratio) Anyway on to the issue at hand. Last week I made a delivery. I Doordarsh in memphis, TN. This delivery was at the FedEx house(known as the Ronald mcdonald house) for kids and their families with cancer. For starters…
