So I’ve been a member of my church all my life. I have run around the building and was a well loved child of the village. And while I’m not as active anymore, because church politics is my least favorite sport, I will always have love for my church. They weren’t perfect, but they always were helpful to the members and the surrounding community. My first pastor moved on and was replaced by another one when I was about 10. I love both of our pastors. They were hardworking men who, for the most part, were true men of God. I’m talking, from getting up in the pulpit and shaming people for talking bad about the youth and gay people, to paying for under privileged kids to get free summer camp and winter clothing. Unfortunately, the larger church organization recognized that our new pastor was really good at molding new…

3 Years Too Long
I've been an employee and this universities merchandise store for the last three years, and they immediately let me go the moment the caught wind I was looking for a new job. The first year was a nightmare, with a terrible boss and terrible pay. But soon we had a whole new boss, who was very nice at the time, and a 50 cent pay increase. This also followed a complete store remodel and restructuring. This made me wanna stick around a bit longer, figured with this new boss and my experience with both work structures, I would be in the running for a full-time position or slight pay increase (this is still one of the lowest paying jobs on campus) Year goes by, and that didn't happen. I'm sure there's a reason why, but it was never told to me. ALL that was said, when I asked, was 'we…
Billionaires with major real estate holdings are really stressed because you wanna keep working from home. So please, for the love of capitalism. Go back to the office! /s Bitches.
The Decline of American Truckdriving

Just the title, I think I’ve heard that on this sub, that you can apply for unemployment for reduced hours/maybe reduced salary? Also, second question, will other employers ask/can your employer tell how much you were making while under their employment?
There is a local pizza chain here in Northern California that my friend works at and I frequent. I went in just now and the place was burning up. We are having a heat wave and my buddy informed me that the owner controls the AC from his house and will not turn it on. This is pure cruelty on his part. These workers are sweating their asses off by the ovens. My friend is lucky because he’s a driver but this is not cool. All to save a few dollars.
One and only piece of job advice
I have been an avid reader/practitioner of this sub for a long time and while agree with the spirit of most of the posts, there are also a lot of extremely naive posts, which within time, will answer themselves through experience of being in the workplace for a long time (sadly). In summary, yes the workplace is unfair – always has been and there isn't a great deal you can do about it. Sometimes you eat the bar, other times the bar eats you blah blah blah… HOWEVER, the absolute best piece of job advice I have ever been given, regardless of your age, industry or geographic location is this: Only ever stay in a job if you are either LEARNING or EARNING. If you aren't doing either – LEAVE. If you are doing both – STAY. If you are only doing one, then start thinking about moving on. That…
…Is because too many people are convinced that this is just how shit should be. I had a coworker actually argue that we as Americans are somehow better off because we have less sick days, parental leave, and that 3 paid days for bereavement makes sense. That Europeans and others receiving all those extra benefits comes at a price and their quality of life isn’t as good as ours. This system works, these people are fucked. We do and accept so much stupid shit for no reason other than “rules”.
Got fired after getting stabbed :(
I worked at a major cities fire dept. as an EMT. on May 17th I got stabbed on my off day. My right wrist took major damage 4 of my tendons were severed, a bone was fractured . After the hospital visit and surgery later in the week, I was told by my surgeon that I couldn't work until July 5th. My job kept calling me in the mean time (every single day). At first it was just to check on how I was doing but eventually they kept asking me to come back on light duty. I told them that the doc said no work at all until reevaluation on July 5th. My Boss told me to get another opinion and that if I was not able to come back before July 5th he would send it up the chain. The Assistant chief called me later that week and…
