Should I respond?

Apologies in advance for the long post I started interviewing for a role at a new company in May. I went through 4 interviews and was prepping for my 5th last week. This job wouldve been a major salary bump for me and wouldve overall just been good for my career. The 4th interviewer told me that the final interview would just be a formality and that I pretty much got the job. Ive been screwed over by companies befor so I know it's never actually confirmed until I get a written offer. Anyway, I noticed something strange on the calendar invite so I emailed the HR lady to get it clarified 3 days before my final interview. I got a response 2 days later ( a day before the interview) letting me know that something has come up so they unfortunately had to cancel the interview and then she…

My line manager told me “that multiple people find me disruptive asking for their help for 5 mins”.

I am in an entry level training role learning cross-skilling in my job. This means that pre cross-skilling days in my office, people were experts in their departments or have long experience in these departments. They began training us and other colleagues since Sept 22 and Jan 23 respectively. However I need reassurance sometimes with how hiI am doing things in a certain way because they won't allow for things to be done differently. In my induction they were all about showing initiative, getting things done etc is what they wanted. Now 6 months down the line they are saying that this way of doing things is “disrupting people” even though initiative is in their values. I feel like I'm walking on a tight rope here. If I do something that's not in their values or agenda they will pull me to the side and say I'm a problem. I'm…

Union questions….

So like I’ve been noticing a trend of businesses like Walgreens and such, promoting a huge percentage, like well more than half their staff to supervisor positions. I was wondering if this is mainly done as a (technically legal) way to prevent unions from forming, as supervisors and management cannot join unions due to conflict of interest? Like I’ve seen schedules with a dozen employees, in which 8 are shift supervisors….

Missing almost an entire day of vacation time even though the vacation policy clearly outlines (imo) what time is supposed to be allotted.

TLDR: my employer said I got 5 days of vacation, when I took them they paid me for 33.5 hours even though I’m a full time employee. Per my employee handbook which I had to fill out when hired, here is the vacation policy: “Paid vacation time is provided to regular full-time employees to allow a reasonable period of time to be free of job responsibilities and to enjoy rest and relaxation. Each employee will receive the following vacation based on continuous years of service: 0-1 year None 1-2 year 1 week per year (5 days) 2+ years 1 week each 6 months (max 2 weeks per year) Employees with one year of service will be granted one week of vacation as of the anniversary of their hire date each year. Employees with two or more years of service will be granted one week of vacation for each six months…

Otis Bruce (a Chief Deputy District Attorney) Manipulates Employees & Is Sexist

Regardless of your job, everyone should be treated well and not overseen by a manipulative and sexist boss. Some quotes: “he routinely manipulated and intimidated other prosecutors — often young women — while repeatedly showing gender bias. The report also sustained numerous claims that he made inappropriate and disparaging remarks.” “Otis Bruce is known to prey upon the newest deputy district attorneys (DDAs) when they first enter the office,” one deputy wrote, “to set up a quid-pro-quo arrangement by intimating that he was solely responsible for getting them their jobs, that he is responsible for their advancement within the office, and that he is responsible for virtually everybody else advancing within the office. While doing this he also makes certain to disparage and undermine other DDAs in the office.” “The only person who made me feel unwelcome as a person of color was Mr. Bruce,” one person wrote, “by repeatedly…

Just let me collect a check, damn it!

This is mostly just a gripe and not an actual issue with my job, but I learned today that I’ll be having 4-5 long term goals assigned to me for continuing education, employee development, etc. That’s all well and good, and I appreciate that my supervisors want to help me grow in my career field, but they also want ME to come up with a goal or two for myself. Honestly my goal is to do my assigned work, make sure my reports are doing theirs, and go home at a reasonable time each day, and we’re short staffed so that last part isn’t even happening right now. Can’t I just collect a check in return for services rendered? Why am I supposed to assign myself extra shit to do? Again, it’s not a huge deal, but it irks me a bit. Rant over.

What is the advantage to the employer to have so many employees?

I have a neighbor who has been working at a beauty mega-store for about 6 months. His boss claims to love him. But he only works around 12 hours a month. He gets one 4 hour shift a week and at least once a month gets called and told they don't need him that day. The store is honestly crawling with associates. Most of them have other jobs, of course. What is the advantage to the business to hire so many more employees than they need?

Told my boss I needed to talk to her about my schedule when she has a minute. She proceeded to slash my hours without ever talking to me, so I quit.

Great timing too because I had just saved up for a trip to Las Vegas with my girlfriend, we leave this Sunday. I always felt like my boss did not like me or respect me. Three times within the past year my mother was rushed to the hospital and two out of three times my boss refused to let me take time off to see her, and the last time I was only able to go because my boss wasn't even at work. My income paid the rent and other bills so I didn't even try to fight it, just felt like a pos all day at work. I'm finally able to quit this job now, and my mother is more independent. Anyway I'm excited to come back from Vegas and find a new job in a field I actually care somewhat about, and to find a boss who doesn't…

Cut my notice, unsure I did the right thing

This happened today, I'm now home after my last full workday for this company. I resigned from my shitty office job Friday as it had just come to a point where I could no longer cope. We're understaffed and most of the team is new people still in training, and I was doing 2 people's work as the other person left the week before, and I had a separate project to focus on. Last week was one of the worst I've ever had, I've been stressed outta my mind since Wednesday when they implied they were going to fire me (then didn't). Things were not going well as I had to spend a lot of time trying to fix that project to the expense of other ones. My department's superiors have never been supportive or empathetic and just kept adding to it. Yesterday I went to HR and asked what…
