Coming into work sick

I've been up all night in and out of the bathroom. Diarrhea is so bad it sounds like I'm peeing. I wake up ar 6am and throw up. And again 20 minutes after. I decide to call in. I have called in maybe once in the last 6 months. I also work with kids. I send my boss a text saying I don't think I'm going to make it in, I'm throwing up and it hurts to move. He tells me to come in anyways because he needs people. Which isn't my problem. I don't understand how someone can tell you they are throwing up and in so much pain they can't move but you still want them to come in because you can't find other people to work. On top of that, I work with toddlers so I'm taking the risk of getting them sick. Of course I'm going…

My senior’s forcing me to present my thesis at work. What do I do?

My senior is also the training officer of the department, so he wants more people to present to show how well he's doing his 'job'. Not only do we have to present in front of the entire department, but also in front of consultant and bosses. It's literally an unofficial board interview. Basically, we do all the hard work after hours, prepping the presentation and answering deliberately difficult questions from the bosses; then he reaped all the benefits by simply reserving a room. What do I do? Malicious compliance? Call in sick/Resign on the day of presentation? Some background info: I've already finished my degree a few years ago, so I could barely rmb what I did. The lab I work in is at public hospital; it's not a research lab or somewhere we can learn by 'sharing our knowledge'. It's already really stressful and have huge workload. This senior…

AITA at my job?

In my country, employers are required to give employees breaks if a certain amount of hours are worked. I'm part time, so I'm not affected by this but most of my co-workers are and choose not to take a break and work 30 minutes less instead, which isn't strictly legal. This week we a guest from another location visiting us, and we've been told we have to take our breaks while she's here and we're supposed to pretend like we always take them. I flat out told my boss today that while I won't say anything to her about it or bring up the topic, I'm not going to lie to anyone. I told her that if we're supposed to be taking breaks we should be, all the time. She's angry at me now because I have an opinion on it without needing to take a break and my coworkers…

To cut and run

Preface this with, midwest, “northern” bible belt area. I have been with the same employer for roughly a decade, and at the beginning of this year; the “owners” informed us that due to the economy still being “slow” in our field, that we would be looking at cutbacks and belt-tightening across the board for the coming year. Nothing unexpected coming from tightasses like them, have heard it before – and there's nothing that's been done about is in the past. This time, it is different. Across the board for members in management positions, minimum (equivalent) $5/hr paycuts, hour cuts across the board to the point where some people are now working – if they are lucky 2 days a week as opposed to the 36-40 hours they had been. Complete removal of any benefits – health care, dental, all insurances, cessation of PTO and even threats of “don't work overtime,…

Poor People Rules

I hate shit like this. It’s a list of “failings” of poor people. It’s premise seems to be that poor people make bad “choices” constantly and that they can choose their way out of poverty. I’m not saying there aren’t good ideas; having an emergency savings, getting an education or skill—these are objectively good things for people. However the problem is that it fails to take into account the costs that these things have. It’s hard to go to college when people have to work multiple jobs to stay afloat. It’s a risk financially that people are often unwilling to make because they will be saddled with that debt for literal decades and they might be helped out by the government one day, probably, maybe, who knows. Until our society restructures to allow people the freedom to take these risks to improve themselves and their conditions we can’t blame others…

just found out my landlord is joining the company I work for.

The office is small enough so I will be seeing him fairly regularly, he shouldn't have too much controll over and of my work thankfully but this still feels weird. Is this a red flag?

Do I quit my full time job?

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this so apologies! I recently found out that I’m going to be switched to part-time after being told that my full time position was secure for another year. I also found that that the 150 vacation hours I accrued will reset to zero come august 29 because my hours are decreasing. My work wants me to continue part time but I’ve been looking for full time positions (with no luck). Should I go part-time and lose out on those vacation hours or quit and have it paid out? I’m planning on looking for another job so quitting was in the plan anyway but I was hoping to have a job lined up before I did.

Waiting until sept 7th to put 2 weeks notice in

I work for a logistics moving company where we deliver portable storage units to customers. I like my job, and I was even paid for to get my a.z license. Almost one year ago, I was in a very bad multiple vehicle accident on a highway and needed 8 months off. I worked very hard in my rehabilitation to get back to this level of manual labor and I was so excited to get back to work. There are warehouse (forklift) duties on top of deliveries, so I wanted to make sure my body could handle it. While I was gone, the district manager had to hire someone just in case I wasn't coming back in time for summer busy season. The person they hired works at my warehouse and from the get go they were a problem. Not finishing delivery routes which leaves other drivers to put it on…

Weird vibes…

I’m unemployed, currently awaiting unemployment benefits. I’m standing in a line for a job to give a lot of my personal information, I thought it was all good and now I’m getting really bad vibes about the whole thing. I’m worried this is gonna mess up my unemployment and I really want and NEED to get a job. I feel like I’m screwed if I just walk out.
