Antiwork: I find myself in a difficult work-related situation and would appreciate some advice. I've been working as a robotics technician, going above and beyond my role for several years now. Through self-motivation, I've successfully executed multiple projects and meticulously documented my abilities and performance. The natural progression for me would be to move into an engineering position, which I was turned down for last year, with the promise that there would be another opportunity in the future. Recently, I invested a significant amount of my free time in writing new software and designing/calibrating multiple systems that have made remarkable improvements in my area of expertise. Friday, I announced my latest and most impressive project yet – a software system that goes beyond my job role and could have a significant impact company-wide. However, shortly after the announcement, I discovered through my own research that there was a job posting…

I'm only scheduled to work 4 days a week because I'm also a full time student, so on Sunday during my last shift I was scheduled to work the full day but was told to finish early because we were overstaffed, then I didn't get my schedule for the upcoming week (we usually get our schedules every Sunday, sometimes as late as Wednesday if we're scheduled for later in the week). I messaged my boss a few days later to make sure he actually sent the roster but he didn't respond, so I decided if he wasn't going to talk to me over the phone then I'd have to talk to him face to face. Thursday comes up where I'm usually scheduled all the time without a problem so I go into work hoping to catch my boss since he comes in early to open up before me and the…

Coming into work sick
I've been up all night in and out of the bathroom. Diarrhea is so bad it sounds like I'm peeing. I wake up ar 6am and throw up. And again 20 minutes after. I decide to call in. I have called in maybe once in the last 6 months. I also work with kids. I send my boss a text saying I don't think I'm going to make it in, I'm throwing up and it hurts to move. He tells me to come in anyways because he needs people. Which isn't my problem. I don't understand how someone can tell you they are throwing up and in so much pain they can't move but you still want them to come in because you can't find other people to work. On top of that, I work with toddlers so I'm taking the risk of getting them sick. Of course I'm going…
My senior is also the training officer of the department, so he wants more people to present to show how well he's doing his 'job'. Not only do we have to present in front of the entire department, but also in front of consultant and bosses. It's literally an unofficial board interview. Basically, we do all the hard work after hours, prepping the presentation and answering deliberately difficult questions from the bosses; then he reaped all the benefits by simply reserving a room. What do I do? Malicious compliance? Call in sick/Resign on the day of presentation? Some background info: I've already finished my degree a few years ago, so I could barely rmb what I did. The lab I work in is at public hospital; it's not a research lab or somewhere we can learn by 'sharing our knowledge'. It's already really stressful and have huge workload. This senior…
AITA at my job?
In my country, employers are required to give employees breaks if a certain amount of hours are worked. I'm part time, so I'm not affected by this but most of my co-workers are and choose not to take a break and work 30 minutes less instead, which isn't strictly legal. This week we a guest from another location visiting us, and we've been told we have to take our breaks while she's here and we're supposed to pretend like we always take them. I flat out told my boss today that while I won't say anything to her about it or bring up the topic, I'm not going to lie to anyone. I told her that if we're supposed to be taking breaks we should be, all the time. She's angry at me now because I have an opinion on it without needing to take a break and my coworkers…
Was I fired what should I do?
I had it out with my boss the other night I worked practically full time at a restaurant wanted to pick up more hours at another one he didn’t like that very much so he decided to cut my hours I called him on it in the end he said “you can be pissed all you want” to which I replied “ I’m pretty fucking pissed” boss retaliates “ok then go bro” “ok I’ll go” I said “let me get my shirt” and then I left did I get fired or quit. Now should I apply for unemployment or not as a fuck you to my boss?
To cut and run
Preface this with, midwest, “northern” bible belt area. I have been with the same employer for roughly a decade, and at the beginning of this year; the “owners” informed us that due to the economy still being “slow” in our field, that we would be looking at cutbacks and belt-tightening across the board for the coming year. Nothing unexpected coming from tightasses like them, have heard it before – and there's nothing that's been done about is in the past. This time, it is different. Across the board for members in management positions, minimum (equivalent) $5/hr paycuts, hour cuts across the board to the point where some people are now working – if they are lucky 2 days a week as opposed to the 36-40 hours they had been. Complete removal of any benefits – health care, dental, all insurances, cessation of PTO and even threats of “don't work overtime,…
