My teenage child was asking about a Saturday job. This got me thinking about how much I earned from my paper round in 1995 and compare that to minimum wage today.
The morning round paid 30pounds, evening round was 16 or 18 pounds and I did 2 sunday round at 5pounds each.
That's 58 pound in 1995, works out at 106.14 using an inflation calculator on Google.
Say it took 9 hours for the week, that's 6.44p/h.
Looking at the minimum wage for 16 to 17 year olds today which is 5.28, something looks to have gone very wrong with UK wage policies?
NB – Just as proof, the newsagent was on Whiteladies road, Bristol. The owner was Martin, nice guy, though not sure about the rats tail haircut he had.
