Quit last month, boss asked me to come in today.

Long story short, I quit working as a research assistant because the grad student I worked for was extremely unorganized and overworked herself so felt it was justifiable to do the same to me. I never got a schedule, was just told the night before (at like 7-10pm) or the morning of that I’d be working (was never told how many hours just when to come in). Often got tricked into 12 hour days because of this. Basically she didn’t see me as a person with a life and didn’t respect my time. There’s more but I won’t get into it. I quit last month because of those reasons and more and offered to do this specific measurement a final time if she needed. She never confirmed so I didn’t do it and left the state to see my family. I quit last month because of those reasons and more and offered to do this specific measurement a final time if she needed. She never confirmed so I didn’t do it and left the state to see my family. Came back last week, got a message this morning asking if I’d done the measurement and if I was back in the state. I was like this is weird, why is she asking, but I said “no I didn’t do it because you never confirmed and yes I’m back.” She said “Sweet so today come in and show me how to do xyz and where these things are.”

…… Yeah no. I don’t work for you anymore! It just reaffirmed to me how she doesn’t see me as an actual person with a life outside of her needs and I’m so glad I quit.

(to be clear, I explicitly resigned to her and her higher up and she acknowledged it.)
