Here is a long one and am posting as I believe in the energy here.
I have been in marketing at my company for 4 years (not in the US) and have stayed while the entire team has changed several times, above and below. My reporting bosses have changed 6x in this period, including upper management, with each completely changing the work procedures. I’ve stayed holding it down through all of this, including 1 year of intense political situations and 2 years of COVID. Not once have I been given a raise or promotion even when I’ve asked for them. I have never received a bonus as they are discretionary in my industry and dutifully accepted pay cuts during the worst of COVID. I pride myself on my work ethic and ability to achieve successes – having consistently hit or exceeded all my targets / KPIs for my role and my department. Generally speaking, I enjoy working with people and maintain great relationships throughout the company. I get consistent praise on my achievements without any real rewards – the verbal equivalent of a pizza party.
Recently, two of my bosses quit (Boss & Big Boss), I put myself forward for the Boss role and at the same time they brought on a new Big Boss. I finally get the meeting with the Biggest Boss and was told I would not be getting the promotion and they would revisit in end of year appraisals. The very next day in a larger meeting said Biggest Boss detailed to everybody the new functions of my role – essentially all the responsibilities of the position I was denied – on top of doing all the responsibilities of my current position. I do know the salary of the Boss position is roughly double mine. New Big Boss over time does nothing – I update Big Boss what is happening and the next day update Biggest Boss what is happening, while doing all the happenings. Then my coworker with the same position left, again all the responsibilities were handed to me. They even told HR for this replacement to try and find “Another
Honestly, fuck them I am resigning tomorrow. I have no future plans and would like to travel the world a bit before I settle on something. Open to witty retorts for my resignation letter. Thanks for hearing me out if you made it this far!
Oh they did give me a raise once, 0.006% of my salary. Was too embarrassed to tell anybody.
TL:DR Worked my ass for 3 years, constantly told to do roles of vacant positions, never received any promotion, raise or recognition. I quit!
