Rejected the next round for interview process due to expectation of free labor.

Had a stellar, one-hour long interview for a sr. operations position at a tech company. Manager sent me the instructions for the next round, which included a 1 and a half hr. presentation to a panel of C-suite executives. They wanted me to strategize and problem-solve for ways to “rethink what the business sector [is] going to positively leverage our position on the market, what sales motions (e.g., referral, co-sell, MSP) are going to be the most effective, and ultimately how we are going to tie this altogether in an interconnected ecosystem with solid strategy and execution.” Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? This is at least a couple days of work for only a second round in a job interview process. Better known as: free fucking labor.

My response:

“Thank you; the attachment was received. At this juncture, I have taken a look at the case study and the prompt makes a lot of sense-I am profoundly familiar with the request and the work involved to deliver on the assignment.

However, I don’t take on a tendency to help strategize or problem solve in opus as part of the interview process, but I appreciate your desire for diligence.

The opportunity sounds excellent and I have truly enjoyed our conversation.”

Ridiculous. Thank you, next.
