3rd Party Problems- US Foods

I was an operations manager for a 3PL at one of their warehouses. During covid they completely dropped the ball. Eventually all their associates seen what type of place they were working for. They would use covid to get two weeks off because they were working people 70-100 hours a week. Me and my associates would come to work at 4am and 5am, only to start helping their previous shift finish. We would select, load and clean the dock. While all these drivers were being forced to stand outside and wait for their trucks to be loaded instead of letting them come in and help. Some waited from 8am to 11am to leave for deliveries that were scheduled to leave up to 6 hours ago.

So you have a whole fleet of 40 plus drivers standing around for hours everyday getting paid, begging to be allowed to go in and help so they can get moving only to be told they weren't allowed.

So we help them everyday for weeks to select, load, clean the docks and do pallets. It eventually got to the point where they weren't even helping us, we were just coming in and expected to do everything. Which we did and I did it better than anyone has before. I was able to receive as much as they would allow us. On Fridays we really took advantage because we didn't have to be off the dock by 5pm. We took over checking out drivers and handling US FOODS bill of Lading.

I was killing it for them and happy to do so. I loved it. I loved the work, the people, and I was really good at what I did. I built a great culture and team that I am proud of to this day. We were the best at providing them services and I went above and beyond always. The most notable way to tell, was when I got covid myself and was out for a week. Things were so bad they called back my old clerk because she knew her shit and could get things done that the US Foods managers and supervisors hated. You could tell distinctly when I was absent from work. There was a difference. When one of their supervisors or managers wasn't there (which was more often than not due to vacations and being there so long) you couldn't tell because they didn't make a difference or do a damn thing all day.

Anyone that works there now or did work there with me knows and could validate everything I am saying. I put that place on my back and had more power than any other 3PL Manager has ever had. All the guys that worked for me loved me and respected me but so did the US Foods associates. I still talk to them to this day and have made friendships that will last a lifetime. We were getting invites to company picnics, I was apart of the safety team, decisions regarding different operational processes that needed to improve due to Altoona being closed. I felt like I was apart of US Foods even though I knew they were only using me. I eventually overplayed my hand.

Long story short a US Food supervisor who is a racist POS, decided to scream at and harass one of my associates because he didn't like him. Screaming in his face calling him a mother fucker and threatening his job if he didn't do his. This kid didn't do anything to provoke that type of behavior. I reported it, to my boss and his. So I am only 5 years at this place and you have a group that's worked together for 20 plus. They are tight, go do things outside of work.

The one supervisor who harassed my associate and manager have been scamming US Foods out of hundreds of thousands of dollars performing “cleaning services” for a food service distribution that has its own sanitation team. The manager owns a side business that strictly rips US Foods off. Who knows what all he turns in as his businesses services. Not to mention a 3PL who cleans the dock on a regular basis. Who's to say they aren't being paid for things that US Foods is already paying for? Like having an associate of US Foods who is being paid cash by the manager to clean, load a truck on a Saturday and clock in to get paid for it.

My dumb ass reports the harassment of my associate to the manager who is buddy buddy with the supervisor. A day later, that associate is caught on video by this manager and supervisor stealing a case of crackers out of the warehouse. I am then instructed to have him removed from the property, and they want him terminated. We'll this associate swears up and down to me he didn't steal anything and to ask to see the video. I wouldn't of fired him without it. Everything I have seen by these two up until now have been shady and scheming, always looking out for them first not US Foods. The next day when I asked to see the video, I got told by the supervisor the manager would show me and vice versa. When the other supervisor returned to work I asked him numerous times if he seen the video and he told me each time “I have nothing to do with that incident, I wasn't here. But no I haven't seen it.”

That told me everything I needed to know. There was no video. As Thursday came I was eventually told there was an eye witness and that I was to drop it, it was done. They don't want to hear about it again. So I investigated, learned the eye witnesses name and went and questioned him. He literally confirmed that Brycen did not steal the case and that he pointed out the other associate to the supervisor and manager. He was the one that actually witnessed it all happen and they instead used it to make me fire Brycen while the person who actually stole the case continued working there.

Friday I was really told to drop it. I wasn't allowed to bring up Brycen again. I am to do what they say. Well I couldn't fire him knowing damn well he didn't steal anything. By the end of the week I dug my own grave and would eventually start to butt heads with this manager and supervisor because they wanted me gone. They want things done the way they have always been done. I can promise you though, I know my shit and I know who I am. I made that place better, happier and more productive. Numbers can easily back that up because the amount OT this site is generating is all because of this incident.

I have been told it will be resolved but still nothing. All the cancerous people are still there and still in charge. They forced me to hire one of the supervisors sons while I was furloughing 3 associates or moving them to an hourly position. I am not stupid, I knew this person would eventually replace me. The thing is, no one did tell me what was happening. Instead I went on a much needed FMLA to get healthy again because that place was consuming me. I left the operations manager. Then in September I decided to go higher and report everything. I did. I am waiting for this resolution to play out because I was told it was confidential.

Remember I work for the 3PL not US Foods. So I should inform my HR, so I divulge sone information. That information lands in the ears of the 3 people named in that email, eventually finding its way to that US Foods manager and supervisors. What did they do? I was told the very next day by my HR that they were done investigating, they don't want me there anymore because of my attendance and if I step foot on the property I will be arrested. Informing my HR that they don't have to tell them why they do anything.

I have gone 4 months without pay, have been fucked over in every way imaginable by my company and US Foods. Just finally returned me to work recently after my HR started ignoring me. I havent received a call back since September. All because I have a conscience. This place was the most cancerous and toxic building I have ever stepped foot in. My 3PL is doing what is best for business. My boss says that's the way it's been and always will be. Why though? It doesn't have to be. There's no reason why treating people like shit should get you anywhere in life. It's gotten these 3 fucking assholes a career in riding the waves of others, eventually sucking them in and corrupting them as well. I feel bad for the associates and the customers who still deal with them. They deserve better and believe me, this location ain't it.I was an operations manager for a 3PL at one of their warehouses.
