My crazy boss

I’ve been working at my first office job for 2 years now. At first I was delighted to have moved up. I finished college and it was a nice feeling to be moved up from an hourly wage job to a salary job. (No more getting my hours cut!) Little did I know how crazy my boss would turn out. Everyday I stay it I realize how not normal it is to put up with her. The lady is extremely demeaning to people and everyone in the office realizes it. When I was first hired people were very kind to me (and they still are) and I believe it’s because they realize how taxing this lady is. Anyhow I just wanted to share our weird lunch routine. Everyday I go to lunch – and I am required to tell her when I go otherwise she will become upset. She will…

Little did I know how crazy my boss would turn out. She will bring her lunch everyday, yet will ask me where I’m going to eat. If I say any restaurant which she doesn’t like (and she only likes 3) she will make a nasty face and will summon me away. If I pick one of the three restaurants she likes she will ask me to bring her back lunch. Which typically means I cannot enjoy my break outside the office since she expects me to come back with her food.

On a separate note, when I took my first vacation she got so upset with me that she told me that she couldn’t not talk to me or look at me. She was upset because I did not tell her first. Side note, I have two managers, one is there when I arrive in the morning and the other (the crazy) comes in the afternoon. I obviously told my first manager first since he is there in the mornings when I show up, I also sent an email out highlighting the days I’d be gone. It was a very busy day and she did not see the email (despite her claims of reading all emails when she arrives) anyhow, she was so offended that she was not told first that she scolded me almost to the point of tears (happens a lot to me with her).
My last vent is we have a yearly review and my boss made a comment about him being happy that he hired her a good assistant (me) and she smiled then lightly laughed and said “I’ve had better” I didn’t think of it much at first but looking back that was so toxic. It’s also a daily ritual to say bye at the end of the day to her otherwise she will become offended. I have no issues with saying bye, but don’t keep me in meaningless conversation about what you plan on working on for 20 minutes. So if I leave at 5 it becomes 5:20, if I leave at 5:40 on a busy day I won’t get to walk out until 6 pm due to her telling me about her work day.
