Probably Leaving My Job

Longtime lurker here. I'm in a tough spot at work right now and really bummed about it. I should start off by saying that I actually love my current job. I do work that is fulfilling, that creates a positive impact on the lives of other people. And the team I work with is amazing. Everything is perfect except for one thing. We recently got new leadership, and with that comes changes. The new guy is great, except he's of the generation that believes working in the office is the only right way to do it. Last year, I moved an hour away from where I work because the area was too religiously conservative for me. The expectation was 2–3 days from home a week, and only 2–3 in-person.

Well now, the new guy is requiring everyone to start working in the office 4 days a week, and we have to alternate who is from home so our new building looks full. If I drive, then I will have an entire week of unpaid time plus fuel. If I take public transit, I don't have to pay for fuel but will have two full days of unpaid time just in my commute.

I'm thinking about finding a new job closer to me, but I'm bummed to have to leave something I enjoy.

Thoughts/advice?
