An important lesson on the psychology of the end-of-year bonus

When I re entered the workforce in 2020, after my first year at the company during our Christmas party, I received a bonus check that was a large amount of money. Significantly more money than my regular check. To put it one way, it was the biggest number on a check I had ever seen in my life. The single most valuable piece of paper I had ever received, and may ever receive. Well, that was that year. Now for the fun part – the psychology. I was ready to leave my job for personal reasons… but I remember the ecstasy of seeing those numbers, the decimal and the zeroes. Boy, rich people must feel this euphoria ALL the time. Yeah, 2022 was a hard year. It was my choice to endure though. One thing – the check never came this year. No party. Not their fault – it’s not part of my official compensation. That’s the way it is.

I had A LOT of bad days from Oct-Dec. We all do. In our own ways. No one was EVER going to pull me aside and see if I’m okay, if this is really right for me. I’m not going to work there again next year.

Tl;dr: Was expecting the bonus, didn’t get it, that’s okay though.

Take care of yourselves everyone.
