I like to read stuff on this sub (for some reason, even though it's really depressing, lol) and was wondering about unions for retail and customer services workers. Granted I don't know the ins and outside or any legality stuff regarding unions. And Personally I'm already unionized so this is more of just me throwing a thought I had out there. But considering how these big companies punish unionization. Could we not have a (sort of) anonymous joining to a union? Then let's say after a point of so many percentages of the workforce or a certain number of workers join, then at that time, the union comes out as a legit thing to the public and have everyone try to get their fair working conditions, wages and all of that. Might be some logistical issues involved and maybe scabs would be an easier thing to be hindered upon. And maybe workforces from different companies might not be able to be in the same union exactly but if there's an umbrella type of union to be a part of to help bring everyone together and easier to find I think it'd help. The problem I see is the whole anonymity of joining initially to avoid retaliation from companies to any group or individual who joins. Who knows if everyone is legitimate upon joining like that right? And I say all of that thinking if you could ID yourself and employment to this union and then companies end up strong arming the legality of it to ID those groups and people. I wouldn't want to see their livelihoods harmed because of that. Hell, none of this might be legal at all for all I know. It's just a thought I've been having and wanted to share if it could be done.
