I am besides myself right now. I recently quit a job I had for almost 4 years to accept a position at a new company and got let go within 2 months of working there. I would have never left my previous job if this is how things would turn out!
The new company offered me more pay, and what seemed like a much happier work environment. The interview process was very rigorous, they called and spoke with previous employers at length about my experience and had multiple follow ups with me before making an offer.
Some background, I am a construction superintendent I manage construction sites, creating schedules, scheduling inspections, meeting with client reps, coordinate contractors, etc. it’s a skill set that is easily verifiable.
The first project I got stuck with was the companies new office. They were remodeling a space 3 doors down from the existing space that was slightly bigger.
The only thing I can think of is my indirect connection with the new space that made me the weird focus of fighting between the owner and his crazy wife. The wife thought they should be renting some luxury office and came through several times complaining about the new office “looks like shit” and how much she hates it. She was very loud and vindictive, there was a project manager who got hired right after me and she was randomly saying to “fire him”.
The owner who hired me came off as not saying a whole lot, but any time his wife showed up there was this belligerence about her that all of the employees were aware of and commented on to me in private conversation. Back in the day I worked as a bouncer and they came off as the type of couple I would kick out when the wife gets smashed and starts making a scene.
When I got fired the owner seemed to have this anger about him like he was stewing on an argument with someone else. I looked up public records and there is a colorful list of “domestic”filings between him and his wife including what seemed like divorce and then remarrying, with some judgements (not all available for public view)
