My boss sent me this IM out of the blue. We've been WFH since 2020 because of the pandemic (something I'd been promised would come “soon” ever since I was hired in 2014 but never did). Now the big wigs are pushing for a return to on location and my boss is trying ease us back into it with in-person meetings–which, when we worked on location, I would leave with physical pain, mental drain, and emotional anguish.
The pandemic showed me a lot about what organizations could have always done for their workers but wouldn't, and I refuse to put myself through days like that anymore. So I take a day of my earned leave rather than attend (something I had done even when working on location).
Why would I need accommodations to take a day of earned vacation? How do I get my co-workers to push back against returning to the office out of solidarity rather than being petty and trying to force my boss' hand in making me come in? I hate that the tide seems to be turning back to the way things were.
