There are multiple posts about people being punished for talking about their wages, or discriminated against every day. And the top responses are someone saying “That's illegal! Report it!” as if that helps.
Ask what state they are in (if in the US). Find a link that can actually tells them who to call or what forms to fill out.
Yes, the people with the problem should do some legwork themselves (although, given the sub title…), but saying “Call the labor board!” is just telling someone who doesn't know where to start to wade into the bureaucratic nightmare that is multiple government agencies.
As someone who has spent 4 hours on the phone, 2 in person, and 2 online today trying to get a problem with my unemployment claim fixed, I understand why someone would just resign themselves to the way it is. If you're trying to help, please do more than just repeat what they already know.
