I have a minimum wage job in retail (in Virginia). Every day throughout the day, the managers post updates about sales and what’s going on in the store on to a GroupMe.
I don’t usually look at the GroupMe when I’m off the clock, but today I was asked to review everything in the GroupMe before I clock in (either the day before my shift, or at work right before I clock in). The reason I don’t wanna waste time doing this is because it’s usually paragraphs of info each day, and I feel like if it’s part of my job, I should be able to do it on the clock.
Is my employer allowed to require that I do this? Does it depend on the state?
Thank you to anyone that takes the time to answer this, I really appreciate the help!
