“Fulfilling Broken Promises”

So we have our annual reviews this week. Since we were bought out by an international corporate this has never gone well, to the point that we've lost 90% of our original workforce. I'm a lowly warehouser. I'm not one to bag my colleagues, but this has me itching for a confrontation. So the new manager has been here for a month, and has been working hard to advocate for us to corporate with middling success. However, today he pulls aside my fellow warehouser for a secret squirrel conversation. Me and the warehouse manager both agreed it was weird. Later, the manager outright says they're fulfilling broken promises to this colleague. I piped up immediately – “what about the broken promises to the rest of us?” Got nothing from that.

Then he comes back hours later and says they're starting the reviews in no particular order, but the aforementioned colleague goes first. Afterwards, manager comes back and tells us the rest will be done tomorrow. There's clearly some special treatment going on.

We just had a 7 year long sales rep leave, making me the third longest standing employee at 5 years. My warehouse manager has 11, and one of the CS guys is at 8. I work harder than anyone else in the warehouse. I pick up all their slack. I put my hand up for first aid, health and safety officer, etc (good for the CV if nothing else). I have the experience and relationships. I should be the first to receive a promise fulfilled.

I'm pissed off. Tomorrow will tell if I stay or go. I'm updating my CV tonight just in case so I can immediately apply for jobs. In NZ, it's currently a worker's market – much easier for me to find a better job than for them to replace me.

On top of that, half the warehouse staff in our parent branch, including the manager, resigned yesterday, so they know which way the wind is blowing.
