Laid Off After Years of “Grinding”

About a year before Covid-19 I saw a listing for a temporary position at a company in my area. They manufactured items that shipped all over the world and their headquarters was right down the street from me. I applied in hopes of getting my foot in the door. I was hired as a temp to work in manufacturing. At the time I was in school getting a degree in business administration. I thought “this is perfect. Getting my foot in the door and I’ll be able to be hired eventually and move to the corporate side”. I was quickly moved from my initial manufacturing line to another. 10 hour shifts standing on my feet in the same spot doing tedious tedious work. I was popping pain pills like candy because my back just couldn’t get used to it. Eventually I was sent down to help in the shipping department.…

Eventually I was sent down to help in the shipping department. I moved around whenever they asked me to because I knew I had to “climb the ladder”. They eventually invited me to work temporarily in the tech support department. Thank you! I was finally getting somewhere. Eventually they announced we would be working from home due to Covid. Sweet. Keep in mind this whole time I’m still a temp. I was not getting paid the same as everyone else and I wasn’t entitled to the extra pay on non official holidays and I wasn’t entitled to pto. A few months later I was laid off without warning. It was fine. It gave me more time to focus on school. Eventually a year or so later they asked me to come back. Working in customer service. Awesome! A pay raise and I hated my current job. Only problem. It was a temp position again. I was eventually hired permanently about 6 months later. 8 months later. I’m told my position is being outsourced and my last day will be in a few months. No offer to move me somewhere else. All that time I spent “grinding” and “climbing the ladder” resulted in nothing.I know businesses exist to make money but damn does it suck being reminded like that.
