Where to begin… Red flags everywhere. I started a new job as a care assistant at a local carehome about a month ago. Normally, the lady who does the rota is lovely, but she's off with covid atm so our boss (ironically, named karen, she has the haircut and everything) has taken over.
Context:
She scheduled me in for a late on a Tuesday, the one day i said i can't do a late. I have my violin lesson on Tuesdays at 5 pm and I've just started my grade 8 (that's the top grade) which will give me access to higher paid jobs in my dream sector. Karen didn't care.
Red flag interaction:
Karen told me “you should have told us in the interview”
I did.
She said “i can't move you because we'll be overbooked”
I thought we were short staffed?
She said “we work around the needs of our residents, so you're going to have to make some sacrifices”
No, my education is the most important thing to me right now. I'm not giving it up for a job.
Other:
Am i being unreasonable? I told them this from day one. I've already got the nickname “the violin girl” and they've scheduled me to play a concert for the residents. I feel like they're willing to use me for my skills but don't want me to develop them if it interferes with keeping me at work for them.
