I don't think I've ever seen this talked about. There are a lot of great efforts to get kids interested in STEM. That isn't bad, but the real reason companies care about this is not because they care about people getting into good paying jobs. It's because they are tired of paying so much for capable employees.
A lot of people should learn STEM skills even if it's not to be in a STEM field. I'm not discouraging STEM. We should continue to promote it and it's good that corporations are encouraging it. But their motivations aren't because they want you to make a lot of money in a STEM field.
