Is my gut right or am I crazy?

So I work as a law clerk at a busy firm. For my position I work under a lawyer, where I basically do everything except meet with clients or provide advice. Past employees in position with the same lawyer and supervisor, lasted 4 months, 3 months and 6 months. I’ve been around 7 months We had a department meeting not long ago, about how our department is down 30% (real estate market has gone down so we have too) and my supervisor mentioned “we finally have a full team for once, and I’d really like to keep it that way” I’m not the newest hire. We had a department meeting not long ago, about how our department is down 30% (real estate market has gone down so we have too) and my supervisor mentioned “we finally have a full team for once, and I’d really like to keep it that way”
I’m not the newest hire.
But yesterday, out of the blue, my supervisor emailed me saying she’s basically putting me on a performance improvement plan. I’ve made small mistakes but nothing that would warrant this.
She’s been tearing everything I do apart since I came back from vacation on Monday. I’ve showed my work to a coworker with just as much experience as my supervisor and there’s been nothing wrong.

My gut feeling is that they’re trying to get me to quit. So they can save money, and not have to lay anyone off.

I have an interview next Friday regardless as this job has burnt me out completely.

But thoughts?
