For context:
My wife and I are expecting our first child soon. Her family is living halfway across the globe so we don't get to see them for more than a few weeks each year.
Last year we took a long vacation in December (4 ½ weeks) in total to see her family. I hadn't taken any time off throughout the year since this had been planned for a long time. Wasn't a problem at all, my supervisor was really chill about it.
Now, the baby is due in one week and I will take the first month of the baby's life off with maternal leave to help my wife j out as much as I can. We don't have family living nearby so we are all that we've got.
This past month I have been preparing a colleague on everything that he has to cover for during my absence.
Since last week my supervisor's manager who approved my leave has been dropping comments that I shouldn't leave the company for such a long time and that I have spent more time at home than at work since December. He said things like 'We need you to take care of these projects, you are the one responsible' and 'Are you sure you want to stay home with the baby the whole time babysitting?'. A gem was also 'you seem to be at doctors offices every week, don't forget your projects'.
MOTHERFUCKER. I WILL NOT BE A FUCKING BABYSITTER FOR MY NEWBORN. I WANT TO BE THERE FOR MY WIFE DURING HER EXTREMELY STRESSFUL PREGNANCY AND THE COMPLICATIONS SHE HAD SO FAR. I DRIVE HER TO THE DOCTOR BECAUSE SHE IS SCARED OF DRIVING CARS AFTER SHE GOT INTO A HUGE ACCIDENT A FEW YEARS AGO SO I DRIVE HER RO ALL OF HER APPOINTMENTS.
HIRE MORE PEOPLE OF YOU ARE WORRIED THAT SOME PROJECTS MIGHT NOT GET FINISHED DURING MY ABSENCE.
AND IF ONE PERSON CAN'T FULLY COVER WHAT I AM DOING MYSELF MAYBE HIRE A SECOND PROJECT MANAGER FOR THIS.
YOU APPROVED ALL OF MY PERSONAL TIME OFF.
