Basically the title, I got laid off two+ weeks ago due to a decline in sales at the company I worked at. I had been working there two years as a full time employee in our production department. We had a woman who started spring of last year. (Less than a year of employment) She was part time as she left early everyday, sometimes 3 or more hours before our shifts ended. (It varied day to day)
I asked my boss why I was chosen when I'm a full time good employee, who's been with the company longer, and it's “because she has kids.” Fuck me then, I guess. Being a parent is hard, I have no ill feelings towards her, but I know there's no way she was supporting herself and two kids, and paying for competitive gymnastics for her daughter, on her part time pay.
Meanwhile I've been working a second part time job for the last year and still haven't been able to save much extra money if anything at all. My full time job was my primary income for supporting myself and now it's gone. I was given 3 weeks pay after leaving, and I'm getting on unemployment soon, but I'll still have way less money than I did before, and I didn't have much.
Then there's the fucking shit show that is job hunting, I've been applying to alot of different positions and nothing has come through. I'm throwing applications out left and right to see if anything sticks, even if I don't fit all the qualifications. Because that's what they tell you to do, right? I feel like I'm sending them out into the void because no one gets back at all, and I've gotten a handful of rejection emails.
Today, I finally had an actual interview scheduled and I was optimistic. I had applied just last week and heard back the next day. I was sent a message by the woman who ended up interviewing me, telling me my application was viewed and to come in today. I go in for my interview, and it was awkward to say the least. But the worst part was, I was honest with her and said I had no prior experience in the specific job I applied to, but I was looking to try new positions and add to my skill set. I got called in for an interview, right? Surely she's reviewed my resume and application and she still called me in, so maybe it will work out!
No, she shut me down pretty quick and said “I'll be honest with you this position requires previous experience, so they're not going to hire you.” And then CONTINUED asking additional questions? This is the same lady who reached out and told me to come in, so she could, reject me face to face? Thanks for wasting my fucking time.
Anyway, I'm fucking discouraged and ready to fuck off to England and milk cows or some shit. I hate all of this.
