I’m retiring after 27 years of teaching, and everybody wants to know what I’m going to do for a job.

Whenever I tell people that I'm retiring, they ask, “What do you plan to do?” I don't plan to do anything except what I want to do. I hope I never have to do anything for money again. I'm not lazy, but being unemployed is considered slovenly. I'm going to actively pursue my interests in gardening and music. My home needs work, and I like to travel. I will be busy, but I won't be collecting a paycheck.
