Just had the stupidest job interview ever

So I just had the worst job interview ever and it reminded me of this sub. I was trying to get a job as a Medical Assistant for my gap year before I go back to school. MA programs are usually $2000-1500 and last a couple of weeks, but a lot of places just train their own (which is what I wanted since I can’t afford to pay 2k just to be able to work). So I had just job interview. They were paying $13 (I’m in michigan btw) for the duration of the training while I work full time with the potential of a raise after they are done training me. While the pay wasn’t the best I was still okay with the idea. Then the interviewer dropped the bomb: if I missed 1 day of work during or after training, I had to pay them 40 THOUSAND DOLLARS.…

Then the interviewer dropped the bomb: if I missed 1 day of work during or after training, I had to pay them 40 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Also, I had to work for them full time for three years and if I failed to do that I had to pay them 40k as well. Keep in mind this job does not offer ANY time off (even not paid), no holidays off, no holiday pay either. Is this even legal? They argued that the value was determined bc of the “training” they provided. Obv I ended the interview in less than 5 minutes and left. It was so ridiculous I’m still in shock. Is this normal at all?
