Long story short – started working in a new (tech-based) company. It's been a month now. Some background – company been around for about 15 years (indicates good track record). However very small – we total of 7 including the MD…..anyways….i report into the MD….we of same age (over 40). His first observation from start was that I come from a corporate environment….true..and he said in small companies things work differently…..he also notes they a highly professional environment….NOTED from my side…nonetheless…let's do this….I reckon
A month into the job….In first week I am giving a task to do…in the body of the task it states” I am responsible for testing this application – and I will be blamed..should anything go wrong”
I read and reckons – what does BLAME mean? and how do you address a new employee in such a manner…..
Second incident —-given a task…..and in the body of task it states '”This is for YOU…to show that….” – I reckon since when do professionals use caps in e-mail. Anyone from a professional environment knows that CAPS – is an e-mail format is someone addressing you in an aggressive manner…..
Thirdly – I am a business analyst…and anyone who knows what a business analyst does —would know that we gather information by talking to business users…and asking questions is how we do it……
Meanwhile – when given instructions – he tells me —-I am not allowed to talk to anyone or ask anyone any questions…..(me thinking is this person for real…is this a game….)
Anyways – I can go on about other examples of messages of how it is sent on skype and the tone/language used for example…..
The office is quite small …not enough space to change your mind kinda…..so I decided I will not speak to the person sittin next to me even…i rather send them an email or skype DM…..for crying out loud the person sits next to me…..
Fellow colleague mentioned – many a people have come and gone in this environment….
Anyways – fellow readers —are these early indicators of a “toxic environment” or am I making a wrong assessment ……personally I feel…this is way toxic…and am craving rather for the corporate professional environment….
