I work at Target in the US (won't say which one) on cash and they made this new really really stupid policy where if you are working self-checkouts you can't stand at the back or front and instead you need to keep walking back and forth constantly and watch customers to make sure they are scanning everything and you have to keep pacing for your entire shift. I think this is really stupid and honestly kind of cruel (we should be able to stand still and rest when it's slow) and so I just do it for a minute when the manager tells me and then I stop when they aren't paying attention.
However, now the manager has started watching me on the camera to make sure I'm always walking back and forth and telling the supervisor to make me do it. And another supervisor told me to do it and stood there and watched me to make sure I was doing it. This is getting really awful.
I know I should just quit and find a new job and I'm working on it but applying is a really painful and long process for me for multiple reasons and I want to keep this job as long as I can until I can find a new job.
Is there any way to get kicked off self-checkouts but still be able to work the register? That's what I'm trying to do but I don't want to get fired, it's a fine line to walk. I'm trying to go really slow and make a lot of mistakes and over-explain things to customers so it constantly gets super busy at the U-Scan and the managers have to jump in an help me so their job is more difficult and it's easier to just put me on a register instead. This might be really dumb. Could really use some advice. Thank you if you read all of this.
