So the advice I’ve been getting is: document everything, sue, etc but I am really not in that type of financial situation. I’m scared to risk being fired and losing my healthcare and income. I live paycheck to paycheck like most Americans.
The details: I posted about some harassment I was experiencing at work a few months ago on here and people were very sympathetic. Basically, I’m vegan. I really don’t talk about it often. I’m also a teacher in the United States. Someone at my work heard that I’m vegan and started describing “shooting cows in the head”, and “killing baby animals” in a class I was sitting in on with high school students. He dug in, “I don’t give a fuck about baby cows I’ll shoot them right between the eyes.” I told him that this was an inappropriate conversation to have in a classroom of students.
During the months of all of this, he had been making comments about “smacking” me “upside the head,” saying he’s going to smack students, and he would comment on how he didn’t like my outfit or how my body would look better in other things. You get the idea. Any time he saw me with food he would ridicule me.
I reported him and they apparently did an investigation. The behavior stopped for awhile. I did everything I could to avoid him. I walked by him sitting with the principal at a table in the hallway and they exchanged a glance and he said “oh here she comes” and rolled his eyes. So obviously she’s on his side. This makes me feel like I have no one to go to. My immediate supervisor has indicated that I’m being dramatic and I should even collaborate with him.
Today I was walking in the hall and we crossed paths. He was carrying something on his back. I ignored him as usual. As I walked down the hallway, a few teachers asked him how his weekend was. He responded loudly so I could hear “Good you know wanna kill some animals, shoot them, slit their throats.” The teachers laughed (????), and I just continued walking and ignoring him “this vegan bullshit” he said, trying to get me to react. This means he is STILL upset about what happened in DECEMBER.
Now I’m scared because he seems angry. He is talking about shooting things in a school building, he’s obviously targeting me. But I can’t seem to get anyone to take it seriously. Do I file more reports? Will that make it worse? I am also not technically in the teachers union so I can’t do anything there.
I just feel scared and hopeless. Both times I have reported, I’ve gotten in trouble and micromanaged as a result. Any advice on legal avenues?
