Hi! I work at a college dishroom, making $12 an hour(as are my coworkers who’ve been here 10-20 years, the dude who’s been here for 30 years makes $14). The dish room used to have a large fan, because yknow, massive industrial dish machine going for several hours at a time- but in January they removed it. Because “it’s unsanitary to have stuff blowing around and it could get stuff on the clean dishes!”
It’s April, I have long covid and my lungs are fucked from it, and I overheat in that room constantly. I have told my managers repeatedly that this isn’t okay, they give me the same old “oh just take frequent breaks and drink cold water, it’s fine.” It is not fine. I forgot to bring a thermometer today but it was 80F on Monday. It feels much worse today. I’m so sick of this-
Is this normal? I have a doctors note clarifying that I need to cool off but I don’t know if I’ll get immediate retaliation for using that. I’ll try and get the temperature tomorrow, but like is there someone I should contact about this? Doesn’t feel safe or good at all. Thanks!
