Company judges employees solely on how many days they come into the office

Here to vent on my company’s shitty in-office policy. They ended their remote policy, and have gone into hybrid with 3-days in the office. Problem there is they hired me as a remote person, and I live 2 hrs away (about 80 miles) from the office one-way. When the 3-days rule started, I asked if they would support relocation so I could move closer to the office, to which they said no. I house hunted still though, but prices are ridiculous near their area (cramped spaces for over $1.5 million). Pretty much, I can’t afford moving. I have kids I need to drop-off and pick-up from school, so I can literally only be in the office for an hour before I need to run to beat traffic. Yet, they still require me to be in the office.

I got called into HR today since I only did 2-days in the office, and got a warning from them. I told them I was working at my home computer from 7:30 am till 6 pm on all the days I wasn’t in the office, to which they just said policy is to be in the office 3-days a week. They prioritize sitting at your desk, then doing Zoom calls there, versus being productive at home. It’s idiotic!

Thinking maybe I should just drive there, put my keycard on the scanner, then leave without sitting at my desk. I’ll get no work done, but at least they’ll say I’m a great employee for showing up to work!
